Should I continue to sew or not ? Well some time ago I managed when changing the needle to let it fall in the machine (part below the needle where you put your bobbin). Lucky I got it out. Since then I learned my lesson and -when changing needles- I always put a piece of paper over "the hole". Same as today. But this paper had a tiny, little hole. And can you image?? yep needle straight trough and lost somewhere below. I opened the machine as far as I had to guts to do so, shaked it -first I heard the needle, now not anymore, so it is stuck somewhere-. Started to sew, so far okay. Should I leave it like this. What would you do ? Can't miss my machine. Need to sew a birthday gift.

Perhaps you could try a magnet?? I have a magnet that I leave a small, thin screwdriver attached to all the time...it magnitizes the screwdriver so when I use the screwdriver, the little screws in the sewing machine won't fall off the screwdriver...something small and thin like this run around the inners of your machine might attract the needle...that's what I'd try...When I'm done using the screwdriver, I just lay it back on the magnet for the next time. aren't magnets suppose to be a bad thing, don't the experts say that you shouldn't put anything magnetic near your computer because it will mess with the ????? Sewing machines are computers too right? Just a question here
I'm also not to fond to use a magnet. It could disturb a computer. and since our sewing machines all have a sort of boarding computer I guess this is not a good option.
A magnet in the mechanical end won't bother your computer part that is in the part with the screen. I'd go for the magnet. If the needle is no longer making any noise and your machine stitches fine, it's probably sitting on the inside of the bottom of the case somewhere. Does it stitch quietly?

A few questions to ask: how old is your machine? is it worth the potential repair bill? Can you buy the birthday gift for less then the cost of the repair bill? Is this a reg machine or an embroidery machine? If you can no longer hear it but you know its still there then just where is it stuck & how much (if any) damage can it do?

personally with all that I have gone through with my machine I would not.
I have it for a year, got it from my MIL who I guess also had it for a year, but didn't really use it 'cos it was too complicated for her. Can't buy a gift, need to sew it ('cos it is for a SS gift ;-), the needle is stuck somewhere. But I'm sewing at the moment with no probs

I would go for it Linda. I expect the needle has fallen to the bottom and is well out of the way. I certainly would not use a magnet. Good luck - let us know how it goes. Sarah.

thanks sarah, for the moment I'm sewing. No Probs; do not hear a strange sound either. I think I will leave it as it is. And when I bring in it for checkup I'll tell to double check for a needle

When I change my needles I leave the thread in the needle...if it falls, I can then pull it up by the thread. Avis

I believe if it is an expensive machine like $6,000.00 plus {embroidery machine} I would take it to mechanic and have him do it as you could really mess it up.

I expect it is sitting at the bottom of the machine. Just don't tip it upside down as it was suggested when this happened to me. The needle got jammed in the bobbin sensor. Had to travel a 6 1/2 hour return trip to the machine shop to get it out.
If you are concerned by all means have your mechanic take it out. It is only a 15 minute job for them. Good luck Shirley

Love the hint of leaving thread in needle but I always used to place a square of felt,just in case needle fell.
