I need advice for embroidering on a canvas tote bag with plastic coating on the inside. Any hints on how to be successful with this type of fabric? Thank you!

If no one has a better idea, you might try making a patch and then attaching it to the tote.

I'd keep the design to an open/light stitch type design. Hoop tear-away and pin the tote to the tear away. Use a heavier than usually needle - at least a 14. good luck!

I would hoopit and stitch it. Normally canvas and other heavy cottons do not need any stabilizer. The plastic should be "nothing" like vinyl, so let us know!

If it is a boughten one (the dollar store here has great bags)i open one side and because of the linner or rubber i use one layer of tear away works great for me hugs carolyn

I got it at Big Lots. Not a lot of selection. It's very large so I don't think I need to open it up. Thank you for the help.

I do not hoop them, I do a basting stitch around the design to hold it onto the stitch and tear also use a bit of spray to hold in place.

I have quicksnap hoops for these items, so they are not in a screwed hoop and I use designs that are light and preferabley with no outline stitches.

I would use sticky stabilizer to keep from making and leaving pin holes in the vinyl.

If nervous about it, you could also embroider on a separate fabric either matching or contrasting, and then sew that on as a pocket. I embroider on thermal curtaining often for tote bags and find it great, though.
