Here are some teddies with plaster casts on their legs.

Our daughter had four breaks and she complained that the crutches were rubbing under her arms so I made padded covers for the crutches and had an old army cot and recovered it with new upholstery fabric. After three weeks when she went back to work she used the cot under her desk. Try to find out what her favorite color is and on the crutch cover you could put a design on the flat side (not the part that goes under the arm). I just happened to have a small amount of the animal print left over from another project and she was OK with it. I wish her my best as she recovers.
