Christmas mug rugs. I've been tweaking the owl design so it needed testing gain. I thought I'd try it with Christmas prints.

I used a layer of curtain interlining on each side of the CD. It is a bit like felt but washable!
So neat - I wonder how the CD manages being in a washing machine. Have you tried washing one? Strange question, I know - but, it just came to me!! Thanks, Laura
I'd certainly do a test run first! The tub of the machine is round, so during the spin cycle I wouldn't be surprised if the cd cracked from being forced against the side of the tub. And I'd definitely wouldn't put it in the dryer and risk melting it!

Would it be possible to put a pocket on the back so the cd could be taken out so the mug rug can be washed?

That is a good question - but, maybe CD go through a wash just fine!! I don't have an extra, otherwise, I would give it a try. Laura
I think a CD would stand being handwashed. If you want to make sure you can wash them by machine you could use a rather thick interliner in instead of a CD.
I've handwashed successfully.
The pocket idea is good! You could also slide one of those cork-like table protectors inside and use it as a hot pad.
