It's my mother's birthday tomorrow (well actually, today - it's 1.45 a.m.!) and I have just finished mounting the embroidery I did for her as a birthday card. The surround to the embroidery is parchment - usually I do piercing/gridwork too, but I decided that if it was too ornate it would detract from the embroidery so I just did embossed butterflies and flowers with a bit of cutwork to complement the main design. I had to print the backround card lilac as I didn't have any the right colour. Now I'm off to bed! Love Dianne x x x

Didn't get much sleep - the wind got up in the night and I was woken at 6.45 a.m. by tree branches tapping at my bedroom window! Ah well, gives me more time to try stitching out my newest design! :-) Love

Hi Dianne,
This is an exquisite work of art. Do you have a web site where you sell your designs?

I do have a website - http://diannescraftbox.bravehost.com - and my designs are all free. There are only a few embroidery design downloads on there so far, I'm just learning to digitise so you get to try them out for me! :-) Love

(Just got back from Mum's - she loved the card!) Thank you for the compliments; the artistic bit is a God-given gift, it's purely hereditary : take a look at http://diannes-gallery.freeservers.com/ and you will see what I mean. As for transalating it into creativity and craft work, that is just imagination, time and trial and error - and my big secret is giving housework low priority ... :-) I don't need much of an excuse to abandon the cleaning!

Love

I agree with you about the housework. A bit of a waste of time that is- you only have to do it again next time!
I read somewhere- Sewing forever, housework whenever.

WOW ... WOW ... that is absolutely beautiful and words can't really express. I bet mom was left with mouth open with surprise and delight. The parchment: is that simply parchment paper? and you actually did the cutwork and butterflies on it??? thanks for sharing ... and a ton of ****4u and MOM

Yes, just ordinary crafters' translucent parchment paper. I drew the design on with white pencil then embossed it on the reverse and finally cut it out. Took me ages but I think it was worth it :-) LOve
