What an amazing bunch you are. Your replies to my post about my machine dying bought tears to my eyes. My first thought was to try and get another machine like mine and to use the part I needed. Had long chat with DH last night and he thinks that as the model is about 12+ years, I should look at another second hand one with a hoop area larger than a 4x4. I have calmed down a bit today - it was just the thought of all the Christmas presents I still have to do. Now to answer some of your questions.

My machine is a Bernina Bernette Deco 600. It was first thought that the bobbin casing was at fault. It turns out that a piece of metal with a 'hook' has sheared right off. I have to ask myself, would it be worth the expense even if a part could be found? Last night I looked on the Bernina 'pre-owned' site and there is a very nice machine in East London. I am going to contact the owner today and see if it is possible to have it sent to me. I think someone asked where I live. I am in Knysna on the garden route in South Africa.
