Here is my poinsettia doily, made by adapting a design for an ornament cover, from Snow Lady Designs. It is about 11 inches in diameter.

That's beautiful and my kind of hand work!
Did you just enlarge the design?

Yes, I enlarged the design, then added another FSL design to cover the opening in the center. I made the flowers, layered them and sewed them on by hand,

Very creative to join two designs and adding the flowers. I like the idea of the flowers being removeable. Seems like it's easier to clean that way. Did you do this in one hooping? Your results are just fabulous!

Oh no, this required many separate hoopings. After I had all the components made I sewed them together.
by queenofhearts 07 Jan 2013
I am limited by a 5x7 hoop so if I want to make something larger I have to get creative. I was able to do two wedge sections at a time but each flower (two layers plus two leaves) was a separte hooping and the center was another hooping. So when it all went together as I had envisioned I was very pleased.

Very clever idea. I didn't think you could enlarge a FSL design.
