Looked on the show with Cathy Miller on the Quiltshow. Made this sample a bit modified, didn´t have so many layers, and would have been better with black batik on the top (I used Kona Cotton, threads to thick) But it was fun. Made in a couple of hours. I anyone is interested I explane

In the art work look of it I love it. It reminds me of taking coloring and then painting the black over and then scratching off the ink to bring up color making the design. This way is not as messy and can dress much more items to show the colorful art. Made me think of a lion I did in my teens. That yellow in this would work hmmm thanks for starting a itch of interest. I may have to try this.

I gather this is reverse applique, or mola technique? It looks very striking with the pastels against the black.

It is not a reverse applique. It is made by machine. You layer together black on the top and then so many layers you want colours (I did cheat a bit and only put small peaces of fabrics underneath) then the batting and the back. You can mark the design either on the back or on the top. I printed out the lizard and free mouchen stichted the conture on the paper. Then you take a scissor and carefully cut the black fabric near the seam. And voila in no time you have your mola
