Sorry to post yet another picture of Georgie but I am so thrilled that her violin lessons are going so well. Her twin brother Ben would rather use his violin as a cricket bat!!!
I wondered if there are any Cuties out there who know what she could use under her chin, instead of a huge piece of cloth!!! I thought I could make something. Sarah.

We got our son a chin guard for his. It was black and a maybe a thick piece of molded rubber. If you have access to one of those magic sponges it would act like a memory of her chin and maybe could be attached with a pony tail elastic or rubber bands. You could also trim it down for her tiny chin. Her violin is so tiny compared to the one our son had.

Thank you Anita for your comment. The violins were made for the children which I think was a bit stupid as they will grow out of them so quickly or just get fed up, as children do!!!
Did they bought the violines? Most musicschools here have instruments for rent (cause the kids grow and some give up soon). The size of the violine depends on the size of the kids especially the length of the arms ;o)

Sarah has this violine not this black metall piece (in german called "chin-holder") on which you can lay your cheeck? Here this is regularly on every violine for children. I had no problems with this when I was a child.
My problem was more the point where the violine lays on the wishbone (mine are good padded now but most kids are skinny there). I had a pad covered with velvet in form of a triangle with elastic straps to fix it with one end at the knob (on the pic under the "chin-holder") and the other on the corner left from the hole in form of a clef. The velvet stopped the slipping of the hard wood on the cloth and hold the violine the position. Found this 3 different at ebay and I'm sure you will be the best if you make Georgie one like the bear-polster in pink :o)

Thank you Bettina for your input. I am going to Johannesburg in April so I will be able to see the problem for myself and perhaps work something out. I think perhaps you are right and that it is more the collar bone that is the problem. Sarah.
I used the chin rest on the left when I was in elementary school. I never had a cute one like the one on the right! I graduated to bigger ones as I grew.

Whatever she uses (see my comment under the chin rest pictures) make sure she doesn't have her head cocked downward too much. I played for about 15 years and have neck problems that may be from holding the violin. The adult chin rests keep the head more level instead of pinched downward. Try to find a way to make the smaller ones do that for her.

Oh, Sarah, how precious she is as she makes her beautiful music! I can understand why Ben would think it would make a good bat.......Look how big the batting surface would be......LOL!!
