At the beginning of the month my computer started to freeze & my email wouldn't open,after running the register cleaner,defrag etc one of the problems seemed to be a file from AVG so I uninstalled it & installed an older version.Computer doesn't freeze now( touch wood ) but now a message from microsoft windows "prevalence reporter has stopped working " keeps on appearing.
How do I fix it ? I use Windows Vista Premium ?.Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You can try disabling the Prevalence Reporter for AVG antivirus. To do this, open AVG, double-click on LinkScanner, then unclick the last option 'Enable reporting ..." and save changes. Reboot your computer after this change and see if this stops the issue.
If that don't solve the problem try to restore to a point (date) that the computer was working before you noticed the problem.

Thank you for the advice. I looked for my last restore point when the problems started & found it was 2009 although I thought it was a lot later than than.How time has flown

AVG will react that way. It may be better for you to remove it entirely and use Microsoft's free download scanner as it may be more compatible with Vista. It has an over-all better catch rate than AVG. It isn't as good (in the business/IT world) as Eset, Kaspersky, or Bitdefender. But it is free.
