Warning about a scam...... A guy called my house Friday and told my hubby that he was from Microsoft. He said my computer was having a problem with speed and connecting to the internet. My hubby told him forget it and hung up on him. Microsoft does not call people.

We called Microsoft to report the Scam. Microsoft said if he had you name already he has you IPS adress. They checked and he left a Trojan on our computer to gain access to out info. Microsoft wanted 75 dollars to take the Trojan off. My hubby said he would do it himself. It took him all afternoon to get the thing off and out of our computer.
So if someone calls you claiming to be Microsoft hang up immediatly. Don't give him time to access your computer. He just wants access to your computer to leave a trojan and steal you info.
I thought I would save someone else from these terrible people and what they do.
Thanks Suzanne

Yep, this has happened twice to me........both times I could tell he was foreign with a very thick middle eastern accent......Same dialect calls at least once a month wanting to sell me prescription drugs without a prescription......called the cops on that one, but not much they can do!

Thanks for the warning. It is amazing the way these people think of new ways to scam. I suppose since very often telephone, internet and TV are bundled together this becomes easier. Anytime I don't use the internet I close it. I just feel better about it.

I don't know how much of a problem this sort of thing is across the big pond but here in the UK these people are a total nightmare and, frankly, need stringing up!! Despite various systems available in the UK that are supposed to prevent 'cold calls' (scam or genuine), they are rarely successful in stopping them. The Microsoft scam appears to be orchestrated by people with a middle-eastern accent but then since many of our large corporations have their call centres based in India or Pakistan, nothing surprises me. I do have my own response to these cold callers but since there are ladies present, I cannot divulge my methods.
