Why is it I put off sewing jobs for so long. I have had a brand new pair of jeans, still in it's bag waiting for me to shorten. It has taken me 20 mins to cut, turn up and machine. What took me so long???

Is that what it is - thank you Caroline.
Have you found a nice idea for the birth-announcementcard? MadWoman was also in my mind :o)

I join your club ;o)
The longer you wait the harder it is to push yourself to start. If I take just a shot rt look around I see so many things that should be done but it is so much nicer to chat with you ladies *lol*
Greetings, Bettina

It is amazing what it takes sometimes to get us motivated.....now you have a new pair for your trip!!!

I am actually wearing them to travel in.
Yeah! Good for you!

It is so much more fun to see a design stitch out than to hem a pair of pants or to sew on a button. But your pants are done now. Enjou wearing them.

Thank you Karen - I will.

You just reminded me that there are a pair of my husbands trousers waiting to be shortened. Maybe I will quit procrastinating and tackle that job today or who knows maybe another day!! Hugs,.Mary

Where have I heard that before Mary?
I have one of my husband's shirts hanging in my sewing room and all it needs is a tiny applique patch.....

For me, I prefer to be upstairs with my laptop than downstairs in my sewing room. Maybe it's because as soon as I am not visible, Ray's mum starts looking for me and I can hear her walking everywhere upstairs, or
maybe it's because my sewing room has no walls, or door, or windows or wall and ceiling linings so it feels like a dungeon, dusty, dark and dingey, and either stinking hot or freezing cold, or
maybe it's just because with every new project added to the pile I am just overwhelmed and now I don't know where to start.
Time was once that my motto was:"Never put off 'til tomorrow, what you can do today"
Now I'm more like Scarlet O'hara as I seem to be always saying: "tomorrow, I'll think about that tomorrow"
But gee I am so glad I am not alone in my procrastination. :-)))
Hugs n roses to you all, Meg

Deep down Meg - I think that we are all the same and all dislike menial tasks.
Aaaaaah! Is that what it is?
That explains it!
I worked as a straight machinist and overlocker in millinery, babies wear and general clothing when I was a teenager, so maybe my sub conscious thinks of sewing now as work????
Are there any psychiatrists here who can cure me????

I hate doing the boring stuff too! Nothing worse than shortening trousers, and at just 5ft I have to face that task way too often!!! One should never have to waste creative talents on putting up hems :)

Unfortunately it has to be done sometimes.

Congratulations on conquering a boring job. I dislike doing alterations, especially the ones that have nothing to do with embroidery. Additionally, the worst sewing jobs are the ones for myself, regardless of how much time they entail. They are the easiest to put off for another time.
There are too many things I would rather do or need to do.
However, if I add a bit of embroidery, the job becomes a lot more fun!

It was such an easy job - not like mending something, a job which I hate. Usually tell DH that it cannot be done!!!

I to dislike hemming jeans or anything else. Yes,it's such an easy job but it is just soooooo boring. Glad you finally got it done. Now, I need to get of my duff and go put away winter clothes I left laying on the floor in my sewing room. Hugs..Carol

I also hate doing hems - I would much rather just do my embroidering and make lovely things - I feels such a waste of time to have to finish somebody else job - They should be making pants in different lengths for us to just be able to wear them. lol.

This is so true. The mens trousers are in different lengths but not the ladies!!!

I do the same thing. It hangs in sewing room til I need it. Probably because I'm not getting paid for it so I'm not in any hurry to do it. It's not as if I don't hem things every week, I just get paid to do them. Oh well! do it sometime later. Ho hu

So true
I've let some things hang so long I've forgotten I have them.

It sounds like me. I put off hemming pants until they are needed, I call that the variables. I brought them without purpose so when I need them I will know what I will be wearing them for and what type of shoes either heels or flats so I know what length to make them. Being short I usually have to hem all my clothes especially pants and they do hem up quickly once I get started.

I also find that deciding the length is the worst job.

Sounds like me Sarah-I do that to my husband and daughters too- I do this stuff all day, almost everyday for "paying" customers, so when it comes time to do for us-it gets put on the back burner way too long. That's why I would love to tell customers-I quit-All Sewn Up is no more...soon maybe???

There is never much 'me' time when there is a family around.
The cobbler's children have no shoes.

I think it is because we get so busy doing for others we put ourselves last. Take some time for yourself, you deserve it too and won't you look nice in your new jeans.
