I have been trying to cut out a pattern from spandex fabric, but it rolls so much on the sides I am having a hard time using the fabric. Help!! Thanks.

Try using double sided tape....... but you know, this is just another sign that spandex is the devil's handy work! Just joking!!! good luck

Geruvyme, I think you are right on. This has sure been a trial for me, frustating!! I have quite abit of this fabric, and it is beautiful. Not much good if I can't cut anything out of it. Thanks, H.and*'s

I normally stick the sides to the table, put on the pattern and then use a roller blade (Olfa). Good luck.

Press (do NOT iron, press, move the iron, then press again)some wax paper on the back for a temporary stabilizer. After you are finished or ready to actually sew it, just peel off the wax paper and stitch. (put the waxed side toward the back of the fabric) ;)

Another suggestion to go along with waxed paper would be to use freezer paper. Press on the back for stability and then cut it out and sew. You can wait to peel it off when you are finished, after sewing.

i have used micro pour it is paper type dressin tape they use in hospitals . i use it on dificult materials i use it instead of pins. and or there is a new pin out that is a doubble point like a u and it is fine and holds edges flat and stops any movement.they are not cheap but good.

I don't know if you have a grided quilting ruller but I use mine for everything. I always slide the ruller over the fabric to flatten it out before cutting anything out. Especially when I cut out spandex fabric, made lots of tights. I place my rullers onto the pattern close to the edge and then cut without having to pin to much. Hope that helps.

If usingspandex for garments, draw all the pattern pieces to be cut out onto a sheet of paper, have each one larger than pattern, cut out, spray with temp. spray glue, apply to wrong side of fabric as you would normally do,, cut out all pieces,leave paper on, join seams together and remove paper, any bits left behind will wash out during first wash.

I missed this question and I'm glad I found it. Nice to know that wax paper can also be used. I always use freezer paper. Now when I'm out and want to sew I know what to use. Thanks jrob

I have really learned som ething from this question. I do not want to cut out or sew spandex. LOL at my age I've learned to avoid what frustrates me if I can. * 4 u 4 my lesson learned.
