I am waiting for the bride-to-be call me to set a presentation appointment. I found a bundt cake pan in the shape of a castle, so I will bring the treats. I also gave her daughter a piece of FSL in the shape of a crest with her initial on it. Of course I used angelina fiber. Her reaction was priceless! She said " That's my Mom!". I also learned that the bride would like the name of the guests on the back side of each chair. Any ideas how to pull this off without pins. I am sure there will be rented chair covers.

If you can't use pins or anything that leaves marks I would guess strong magnets would hold a strip of fabric with a name to a chair cover. You could sew a tube of fabric then cut into sections slightly larger than the magnet, sew the ends closed with the magnet inside then whipstitch a couple to the back of the fabric. Put the opposite magnets behind the chair cover and the magnets should hold each other in place. Otherwise you could stich the names onto wide ribbon or long narrow strips of fabric that could be tied to each chair in some way maybe you could make something with elastic in it, like a large scrunchie headband that would go around the entire chairback. I would want to see the chairs and chair covers to know what I was working with if I was making something that tied so I could get the length right.

Thanks! I think you covered all the bases. I like the magnetic, however stitch 300 on or near the day of the event will not work, maybe some strong enough to go on both sides of the fabric. I do not know where to get them other than the fishtank cleaners Lol! The elastic sounds good, I could make casings to hide the elastic and the use FSL or Organza name plates. Like you said, I could not do this blind which is why my job is most important.
I was trying to imagine different types of obstacles. If they weren't able to get a chair and cover for you to use as a "mannequin" it would be hard to make something to fit properly....you wouldn't want something too small falling off every time someone moves in their chair. I never like to do sewing for something I can't measure myself, it usually ends up a waste of supplies and time.
I hope I get all the information I would need to do a quality job. We will see - it is still a bit daunting.

I like kylasm's ribbon idea. You could make applique type ornaments with names on them and attach with ribbon or that stretch gold type ribbon they use on packages. If time you could also add the names or initials of the bride and groom in a heart. Ideas would be endless with the design.

I was wondering how I could make it functional, so after the wedding it may be displayed or used in another way.

Perhaps you might use hook and loop tape/Velcro with the sticky back. This could be removed after the reception and used for a quilt top.

Why don't you sew stuffed hearts of reasonable size with name embroidered in the centre and attached to the chairs with ribbon bow either on top or around the chair tied to the seating area? On the back of the hearts you could stitch the names of bride and groom and the wedding day date and the guests could take home their hearts as a memory - I wanted to send a drawing but this was refused due to wrong image (?) but hope you understand what I mean - Maria

I am hoping she wants it in lace since I would be the lace coordinator. Yes I like the heart idea! I am planning a swag of sorts since it would need to include a full name.
