I delete the zip file, its easier to keep up with my new downloads that I do every day! lol....and I don't need all the formats

I keep the rest. The files are so small and my computer has plenty of space..besides that I always try to have at least two formats of one design in case one is corrupt. Saving all the files allows a quick view of the colors the designer used -- as one of the designs must be in their machine format -- right?
I also have a file named "Large" so I can keep the files too large for my current machine hoops. Most of us hope that someday we will have a machine with larger hoops. You never know when that someday will be.

I really wish that I had kept larger designs. Now I have a larger hoop they would have been nice to have. Too late now..........

I only keep the PES. I have WAY too many designs to keep every version and I figure I can convert the PES if I ever get a different machine (although I don't think I would move away from Brother/Babylocks).

I wish I had rescuer's tenacity for keeping everything...that would be the ultimate and safest way....but, alas, I do not...I usually keep the zip files for the whole collections that I have..not the singles like the freebies...I usually keep two formats... Pes for my Palette software and Jef for my Janome MBPro sofware as those are the formats they were built around...if I can't get Pes of Jef for some reason...I go for Hus...but the Dst is the format used by some professional machines and I think it is the most universal..but it does not have any colors assigned to the object...so it looks really strange when you look at it...this probably doesn't help you very much..but that is what I usually do...

After extracting the PES and JPEG, and also a last no. and sometimes the place it comes from I delete the Zip file and folder if its empty after moving and renaming it.

I agree with rescuer & I do the same & for the same reason. I have an external hard drive (also advice from a very very smart cutie!) so I have lots of room to keep the zipped files. You just never know. Some of my zipped files have been transferred to cd's just n case. Hugs Loralye

It sounds like we are on the same page here! I keep everything! I also do multiple backups.

I keep the zip files, I also keep the pdf, jpg and the entire extracted folder if I had to rename the designs.

Once unzipped, I only keep the formats I use, the jpg, copyright if there and instructions/color sheet. Why clutter up my computer with formats that I don't use. I also keep the emb format if its available.

I keep it all. I have a singer and it uses almost all of them and since I use the external hard drive and make a copy of that just in case it don't matter since I have so much room on external hard drive.

I always delete the rest. They'd take up a lot of room on my hard drive that I need for new designs.

And on topic, I keep everything--esp the zipped files--try to keep each vendor in its own file of downloaded orders----rename/name the ones I want to catalog/name----and then transfer those by title to the proper grouping----I try to include the vendor in the name and if I have made any changes---made it larger/smaller/changed colors/etc---hope this helps.

Good question Toogie. I have a folder named Zips. After opening and extracting my format and storing it into the relevant folder etc, I transfer the Zip into the Zip folder. Sometimes if I'm not sure whether I have downloaded a zip file before I save it to the Zip Folder and it will tell me if I have d/ld that file already - saves time opening and filing design only to find I have filed it before.

Like Rescuer, I also have a folder in which I store designs too large for my machine, and another for designs that can be resized if they are just a little to big for my 4x4 hoop.

I delete all unnecessary files. Software is available to convert to another format If in the future I purchase a machine that uses a different format that what was originally saved.

I keep files zip in archives on 3 external hard disks, I would have to rename them. In unzipped files, I keep only my size and another one, in external hard disks also. I am afraid of losing files. I would want to create cd for more easy manipulation. my software has bugs....

I only keep my format and sometimes the picture. Once a month I try to put everything on CD's. I'm going to get myself an external hard drive soon. Always keep the instructions if it's an ITH design that's complicated.

I just leave them as they are, and copy and paste the format that I use into my machine program[so that I can 'see' it] They don't really take up that much space.

I unzip take out my Pes file, get rid of the rest. it takes a lot of time putting them into the right folders to find them when I need them.
I have my lap top, back up drive and my work room is now upthe stairs, so i have another computer upstairs that i have to put all my new files on a stick and transfare them in to the folders up there too.
Hugs Pam.

I just save the format I use and delete the rest of formats. In case I should need another format I am able to convert them, but I only use Pes format.

No, I don't keep anything but the format my machine uses. Sometimes I might save the PDF but then I delete everything else. Love Chris

I take out my format I use now & file it on my USB Embroidery stick. Delete other files that I would never need , but keep other formats which I may use in the future (have had machines which used jef,xxx & hus so you never know) all in the zip file .All these zipped files are kept separately .Sometimes the original file becomes corrupt & this way means you can easily find a replacement for it

I only the save the PES formats. I keep thinking though if I ever change to a different format I am going to be in BIG trouble. Hugs, Susan
