you could go buy natural light bulbs and just put them in a normal lamp. I have them for pic taking work great for true color

Bev, I LOVE my OTT light and it was worth every dollar. Got it on a buy one get one sale at Hancock's Fabrics and got two for $35 with an adjustable arm, one lamp for each machine. Before that I couldn't tell Purple Accent from Chocolate after dark. Or Brown from Grey (my husband's towels for his brown leaves bathroom - all in gray.) Also, great concentrated light for seeing splinters, lost needles, for mending, etc. I never use the wimpie light built into my machine any more.

I think I'll go for the Ott,Hancock Fabric has one on sale right now. Sounds like everyone loves theirs. Thanks

This is what I use I've had them for several years...touch on & off. Bulb can be replaced. I grow plants under them as well as lighting my computer/sewing room. I picked up the last 4 that Wal-Mart had in the store on clearance for $10.00 each.

I just got an e-mail from Joann's. They have some Ott Lights on sale also. That might give you a choice. Joyce

I have tried other lights with "daylight" bulbs and never found any as good as the Ott. I got a floor type from Lowes hardware recently - at a better price than Joann on sale.

If you are anywhere near Big Lots they carry a generic version that's called full spectrum light. I have used them for years and they have lasted me longer than Ott. My Ott lights (the bases) have ended up cracking and coming apart. There is both a floor lamp and a desk lamp, 27watt. The floor lamp is $30.00

If you look at Costco or Sam's Club, you will probably be able to find the daylight bulbs (compact fluorescent) that are very true. I buy them a few dozen at a time. I've compared them to natural lighting and there is very little difference. I don't have any sunlight at my house due to the forest, so I need all the help I can get. :)

10-18-2013 For my mom's sewing room I bought a track lighting set, and placed natural daylight fluorescent lights in it. She is able to adjust the lights or move then along the track. She loves it and had me replace many of her light bulbs with the natural daylight. I purchased everything at Lowes.

I have 3 Ott lights that are great. I have another daylight lamp that flickers all the time once it is warmed up. It is really annoying. I will have to find out the brand name on it and tell you so you can avoid that brand. It was less expensive.....

I have 2 cheap floor reading lamps and the light is just fine. 25% of Ott! If you do not like it you can take it back! I know I spent a bit less than this so it must have been on sale or clearance. Always check the clearance.

I complained to my husband and he removed the energy-saving 'yellow' light from my sewing room and put in another energy-saver light which is whiter and brighter. We are using the magnesium flueros that seem to be everywhere in Australia now. I couldn't find any Ott lights that weren't already in lamps. I wanted the whole room well lit and now it is.

I went to the Ott web site to try to buy, now held together with duct tape, a back up bulb for my trusty floor lamp of 20 yrs or more and found a sale section or 2nd quality on their site and ordered a table or desk version. When it arrived the only thing wrong was a dented in shade. I can live with that. Also, now and then , Joann's will have the Ott lights on sale. I do really like them. Kay
