Looks like one layer of fleece or knit fabric. If it is doesn't have a backing or something to keep it's shape before you bind it, (since this is so small) it is going to stretch .Now you may be able so to a stay stitch around the edge befor you place on the binding. That is one of the problems, if this is to be a square, which is hard to due for this size , rounding out the edges may give you a better result. But given all that I love the design

You know what? I thought you were talking about your cording border being off....LOL....yes, you are correct, the black outline is suppose to be ramdomly offset...you stitched it perfectly...........
