Thanks, Chris, for these pics! I love all aspects of nature and its creatures, large and small! Many years ago, my hubby and I enjoyed watching two bluebirds from the building of the nest by both male and the female to seeing the little ones flounder from the nest ready for there first flight. As the mother sat on the eggs to hatch, the male stayed on a limb nearby, distracting a cat coming to close, and warning of any impending threat to the mom and babies. The male and female took turns feeding the babies, and both stayed nearby to guard, as the little birds left the nest. Interesting to watch! A great lesson of working together, sharing, and caring, that humans need to live by, too!

wonderful Chris. We stayed in a wonderful adult retreat with a lake in Margaret river WA some years ago and there were lots of them. What a noise they made before they went to sleep haha, will always remember how wonderful it all was, hugs Edith

Last picture is of the 3rd baby Kookaburra taken this morning. I was surprised to see him/her still in the nest. The parents are at the moment in the back reserve calling out to him/her. The other two have flown into the back reserve already. The first bird sat on our back lattice all night waiting till it got light!

When Trevor bought down our rubbish bins back down the driveway this morning he/she flew off to the back with the other one.

They have been so much fun to watch thought your photos. Now to wait till next year.

I have had a magpie family around my yard. It amuses me that the squawking baby appears bigger than the parents and is still demanding to be fed.

We had a nest of Robins right above the front door last year and I could see them through the window on my step stool. They grew so fast and one day they were all gone at the same time.Half the nest was attached to the window so it was really neat to watch them. No Kookaburras in my world. They are cute little fellas.

Love the updates. I have them in my garden too. No babies yet this season or at least I haven't seen them yet.

Oh, Chris, I just want to squeeze that little one in the first picture!! I'll never get to see one of these in person, so your photographic odyssey really makes a part of my life complete. I have a little birdhouse out front, and chickadees build a nest there every year. I have a feeder close by, and the mom and dad both catch a lot of bugs, you can hear the chicks peeping when the parents land with one! This year, when they fledged and left the nest, the mother brought all four of her babies to the tree right in front of the porch where I was sitting, not 2 feet away, to show them off to me. I was speechless!! She let one of the babies land on the arm of my chair, didn't call it away. I was still as a statue, although I would have loved to see if it would land on my hand. That wouldn't have been wise, they need to be wary of people, but my heart so wanted to. It was as if the mother brought her chicks to me saying, "well, here's the lady who feeds you"--and then she took them all to the feeder and showed them the sunflower seed!! It is a miracle, to be so honored by truly wild things, that they will trust for that little while, and only that little while if they are to survive. But she brought them to me, to show them off, there were certainly plenty of other directions to fly, other trees to land in with feeders on them. Oh, how I would have loved to see your little kookaburra!! You are so blessed!! Hugs, Marji

Oh sometimes I think I like this more than sewing, looking at these little sweeties...ever so grateful you keep us up to date.
Did I tell you I have got Kingfisher's nesting in a dry ants nest on a tree close to the house. The male bird comes and sits up on the limb and calls out it's as if he says, I am here watching over you.. My DH had a look in at night with the torch....I have not peeked in yet...I love them lots, we have quite a few around at the moment....cannot wait to see the babies....thanks for sharing...love Kerry

WOW just beautiful. I get swallows every year and purple martins. Here we get daily visits from cardinals,woodpeckers, wrens, blue jays, a red hawk. A road runner comes by once in a while. The hawk is my favorite as my grandfather said it held a special meaning for him. I enjoy them all.
