What could be better on a very cold day then the smell of hot apple pie? Well since I am not allowed pie (on my diet)the next best thing is homemade applesauce that smells as good or better then apple pie. It is thick & creamy & Yummy so thick this spoon stands up in it! The trick that I have is more then one kind of sweet apple makes the batches extra flavourful! I couldn't wait to try some so I did, I did half a bushel of Fuji, MacIntosh, Delicious, & Spies so no sugar needed a tbs of lemon juice fresh nutmeg & cinnamon to taste & boil till soft & then process. Now I have the perfect embroidery design to go with this lovely batch of 14 jars. I can't wait to share it with others for the holidays

it says above!!!lol
by pldc 27 Nov 2013
Yes it does say above but if you choose sweet apples & a variety of them you will get much better flavor & I keep the skins on as well so more fibre & a better colour & a richer thicker taste. My personal preference

Sounds delicious! If you get your hands on some Honey crisp apples for a reasonable price they are excellent too!

Oh My Goodness!! If it had a chance, would it keep in the fridge or the pantry, and for how long? I mean, it would make an excellent pressie any time but on a Christmas table or by the door for unexpected visitors and with a pretty embroidered jar top tied on.... what a lovely gift that would be.
Cinnamon and nutmeg..... gosh!! it's breakfast time here and I can hardly stand reading about this sauce and drooling over the photos.

LOL it is just for that reason that I made this Alma. I have made some for my cousin who has started her radiation this week & is having trouble keeping things down. I am searching for jar toppers to cover them too. I have an applesauce recipe to put on a towel too so great last minute gifts. You are right too they are good anytime of the year. This has a shelf life of 3 years as I have put them into canning jars. It is sooooooooooo good

Looking good. My DH takes applesauce with him in his lunch. I use it in my pancake batter instead of oil. Really makes them taste better.

I use it wherever a recipe calls for oil this is a much healthier option! & it tastes good too.
by almag 27 Nov 2013
Well, I would never have even thought of using it in place of oil but I do know I'd like it a whole lot better.
Since my comment two days ago I now have a kitchen bench with a large bag of apples on it..... will they become apple sauce in the next day or two?????
I do hope so but my plans never seem to work out. I've got everything except time today.
If I try really hard...... :{ ... :} ..... Oh Golly!! I can taste that apple sauce already.
Alma.
