Can anyone tell me how to make a fleece pompom for a fleece hat & reduce the bulk in the middle without making the pompom appear to thin? The white is wss but it is still to thick to sew through even using my walking foot

I made hats for my grand daughters & just made the hat & then tied it on the top, very tight, & then cut the strips from that.

Cut a long narrow strip and wrap it around cardboard or something stiff. Slip in a string and tie tight. Cut through and fluff.
