Thank you all for your kind words. I did reduce the octagon in size, about an inch smaller ( 7 1/2" across). Using the original, it would be larger. It took 2 strips of 2 1/2" each color to do. First ones I followed the pattern and quilted just the top and batting, and on mine I experimented and sewed the back on so it was completely sewn, and then quilted. That worked just fine, and gave some dimension to the back, which I made a contrasting season (snowflakes) for double use.
