I was inspired by jofrog's table toppers and I've been playing with the idea as an in the hoop placemat. This is my first try and was all done in my 200mm square hoop with the exception of adding the backing. I think that those with a 200 x 260 hoop could do this totally ITH.

Iit would be so much easier doing it in the machine than by hand. love it. will you share the pattern for the embroidery machine? hope so. would love to try it and show it to my sister sewer group... one way to make it a little eaisier.. i do hope you will share the patttern and instructions. please let me know.

Sticky stuff! Actually, it is the little bit before the fisr seam. The last one goes over it.
The first piece is sewn, leaving about 1-2" open, then after the last piece goes on the octagon, you finish the first seam , as it has something to sew to. Not hard at all (when you remember-haha)don't ask.I'm not Jofrog for nothing- ripit ripit.
Yes, that's how i do it using the sewing machine (at least the squares, haven't done hexagons). However, doing it ITH it would be tricky, so I wondered if Sue had found a way to solve the problem other than cheating with sticky stuff or using a ladderstitch by hand.
No - I just cheated! I did think I had a solution, but it would only have worked on a larger scale.

But you don't need a hoop, it's just straight seams and some trimming, then you can make it any size at all.

When you go to attach the first strip to the center, you start stitching half the way down leaving the first half free. Then stitch on strips 2,3,4,5,6. Then finish attaching the rest of strip 1. Hope this helps!

Just had a quick stop at Joann Fabrics on our way home from church and they had their Christmas fabrics at 70% off plus a coupon for an additional 10% off so I resupplied my stash thinking placemats for next years gifts. Love it!!! I have a bigger hoop, but have not used it. I think the designs must be divided to save them and I don't know enough about 5D to do it.

I attempted to do something similar, but missed first putting something in the very center. You did it!! It's kind of like the Log Cabin quilt design too! It really has an interesting look to it!
