Octagonal - placemat/mugrug/potholder? This is made ITH using the strip and flip method (thanks for the description, dragonflyer!) It was made in my 200mm square hoop - and won't really be worth doing any smaller.

I've sent out about 100 copies of this design now and I think it is time to call a halt so I can get on with some more ideas! Apologies to anyone who missed out.

I just did mine 6x6. Can you do that size?
by toogie 04 Jan 2014
No,I have 5x7, so mine would end up coaster size.I agree with Sue, isn't worth doing that small. You loose the look.

Thank you for offering this great design! I've been far away from my machine for 7 weeks and I miss it so much. I finally went to a fabric store today and touched a lot of fabric to help my withdrawal! You are most kind to all of us.

Sue thank you so very much for sending your design to me. I have realized it's too large for my hoop 6X10, but will reduce it and see how it goes. Dreaming of a bigger hoop one day. LOL I've been a member here for several years, just don't post much, but do love to read from time to time and water the flower gardens. Thank you for not only touching my life with all your designs you so generously give and also the designs on Yoriko's site of which I have a membership. Because of you and all cute, and other digitizers you make embroidery and sewing fun for us and to those we give as gifts. You are special!!

Sue, how would this work for a quilt top if a bunch of these were made and pieced into a top? I bet a lot of scraps could get used up and have a pretty scrappy quilt at the same time. I am thinking just piece the "twist" (lots of them) and then join them. Then at wadding and backing to finish it off.

As I've put above, you would need squares as well.

Now i am wondering if I could make this into a quilt by using the zig zag to join the sections together as i have done in bags. but then of course it could be easily made into totes as well as what you have designed it for.by simply joining the blocks and laying a pattern on top and cutting it out
by adding flannelet to act as padding a nice summer weight quilt could easily be made plus if made into a childs cot size it would be more durable for washing But dare i ask for the pattern Sue Many thanks of you send it on to me and that special project will be started tomorrow so hopefully i will be free to start quilting again next week

Don't forget that octagons do not tessellate and that you would need squares to fill the gaps. Hexagons would be better!
by eggyannie 03 Jan 2014
ahh yes but a small square can be added with ease
many thanks Sue for the design
