This is my first effort to make a coaster. I I used a felt type stabilizer, the fabric I stitched on was felt, and I use a white vynal table cloth fabric on the back. I put the vynal so that the soft backing side was on the outside. I had to use a black permanent marking pen on the outside edges as the white was showing through. I think next time I'll use a tearaway instead of a cutaway stabilizer. The design is from Embroidery Library's Graceful Dogs collection.

I think it looks great. Is that the Sheltie, or the collie?

It's a collie, but the Sheltie design looks a lot like a collie except its legs were too short for a collie. I almost bought the sheltie because I liked the design better, and it wasn't until I read the title that I realized that it was a sheltie.

I have the greyhound-like one from that set and felt the ears were more like a weimeraner -nice designs, just the same though :)

Very Nice! You can also use no-show poly mesh stabilizer. Trim close to the edge then use a hot knife type tool to "melt" away the remainder of the stabilizer.

Very nice. Good idea to use an old vinyl tablecloth for the backing, probably protects better than just plain fabric. Thaks for sharing that tip.

I was afraid that the needle or thread would not like stitching on vynal, but did not have any problems with it.
