Ew, Ew, Ew..........the kittens have tapeworm!! Their fleas are gone, but vet didn't want to treat until we saw evidence.......well, I had a segment on my finger yesterday and it was moving.....OMG!!!! Our other outdoor ones had them and were treated successfully, so I know it is not "the end of the world", but seemed like it when I had it on my finger...LOL!!! We will also give them another dose of flea stuff on their skin, just in case........I told them all "thanks for creeping me out"!

I'm surprised the vet place didn't check for that before their surgeries. At least you have kept them separated from your other animals and it is an easy fix now that you know what they have.

I know, I requested tapeworm meds and the vet wanted to wait to see if they had them.......I could have pretty much told her they did, especially since they had fleas!!
Don't want to be nit-picky, but maybe your vet needs a refresher course? Feral cats/kittens, fleas, eating rodents with fleas on them = tape worms, guaranteed. A shot isn't that expensive. Unless perhaps they were too young or ill? Still, to wait to see "evidence" guarantees everyone will have them if one does. Know from lots of experience.

And thank you for the same! Yuck, but this too will pass. (pun intended)

LOL, Jerri!!! Another issue with this is I now have them on premium food, so the tapeworms are getting a lot of it, so I feel like I'm throwing money out the window, but I will continue with the good stuff as the kittens deserve it....
Nice healthy tape worms - LOL
Well, there's another brag....best fed tapeworms!

I agree! ew, ew, ew!!!! Hope they haven't "shared" with any other cats! Or people! Can people catch it from cats?? Like when you chg the litter box?

No, Gerry, believe me I did a lot of research on them......transmission is through ingesting an infected flea, so unless I eat one of their fleas, I should be fine...LOL! I will treat all 3 of the girls not only because they are sharing the room and litter boxes, but if one has them from being outside, you know they all have to have them......
LOL! That stuck me a funny! Sorta like the kids' song "There Was an old Woman Who
Swallowed A Fly..." NOT that you're an old woman!!

Oh, isn't that just SO much fun?!!! I've had that lovely experience too many times. Make sure you get all the fleas, and don't bring any into the house to share with the indoor kids. What an angel you are to do these rescues, and what yucky stuff to put up with. But now that they're treated, they'll feel so much better and be gaining weight from the good cat food. Big furry hugs for you and all your little ones! Marji

OH YUK!!!!
Have to keep those dreaded fleas under control....
Tao had fleas when I brought him home even though the breeder had used Frontline on him the day before. I spent the next two weeks diligently combing him and squishing fleas, anxiously waiting to be able to use Advantage on him, (it couldn't come soon enough). Now, not a flea, or evidence of one, anywhere to be seen.
He's gaining an ounce a day and weighs 4lb 15oz already.
I LOOOOOOVE Advantage.
Hey, and the beauty of Advantage is that the formula is the same regardless of dog or cat, you only use a different amount.
So,,,,,
one tube, for a very large dog size, will treat 3 cats and one smaller dog, or 5-6 cats. Saves a lot of expense over a lifetime and keeps animals and their surroundings totally flea free.
Now if only I could get a tape worm it might help me lose weight. KIDDING of course. :-)))

LOL, Meg!! Yes, they treated them for fleas when they were spayed, but I don't know if they used Frontline or Advantage. Our kittie tech is getting us what we need for the tapeworm and another dose of flea stuff. I've not seen any fleas, but I know they are elusive.........

Oh NO!! Vicki, you have done it all now! A Tapeworm on your finger!!! GAG! If this wasn't so pitiful, it would be funny, it just keeps going on and on. Are you in a nightmare? But, it's just another little mountain to climb, and maybe, just maybe there will be a bright rainbow on the other side. NOt the Rainbow bridge though - LOL! Good thing they are separated from the older kitties! Hugs, jan
