I feel your frustration! But I've never sewn on that machine. But the only thing you haven't done is change the needle! Try that! Also by SURE the thread is in that hook thing above the needle...I think it may be called the pick up or something? Hope someone on here has the machine & can help you! How about your dealer? Any help there??

After you replace the needle, re-check the bobbin thread. Make sure it is routed the right way. Also, many people have trouble with Singers right out of the box now. They used to be an excellent brand -- now they are often "lemons."
Did you break a needle? The birds nests can happen if there is a tiny burr on the bobbin case.

I can't help you, I'm sorry to say, but you are producing what we call a bird's nest and it happens to every stitcher, I think, at least some time in her stitching life. My Bird's Nest (of mammoth proportions) was created at the back of my first towel embossed initial and I almost had to cut the machine off the towel to free it. Nonetheless I re-established the hooped towel, fiddled with the stitches and then got the needle into exactly the right position again and off we went. No-one is any the wiser and the resulting initial looks grand..... :}
I've just spent the entire day trying to make one of Sue Dewsbury's hexagon hot mats. I put a lovely pansy in the middle and everything was fine except that somehow I changed the order of one of the applique strips. Big Mistake!!! I've now made the second mat - ditched the first one - and to my horror one of the strips is short by about 3mm. I am going to have to embroider a satin stitch corner where the fabric strip ends and hope that I will be forgiven when I give my gift to my best pal tomorrow for her birthday. I have so little time to stitch and only had today because DHDon isn't coming home from hospital today as planned and I had this entire hot, hot, hot day to myself.
I think you might need the help of one of our members who has a machine like yours. Did you try to slow your machine down as far as possible to see if you can get past that problem?
It does sound like a threading problem to me, though. Are you sure the thread is caught in every little gadget that it is supposed to run through...... also I have found that I need to have my thread on a spool rack at the back of the machine and then threaded through the little hook on the front of the lid and then around the empty spool holder that I stand up with a little spool stop on it at the top and then into the machine. Otherwise the thread ran far too fast and jumped out of the thread tracks time and again. That took quite a while to work out that the threads ran best along this line.
Another thought...... I wonder if your top tension is too loose.

Hi "rtrdogs" that happened to me recently and I had the bobbin in upside down!!!!!!

The thread apparently only goes one way in my Brother, which I found out by exactly the same way that you did. Threading is one of the most important things with machine embroidery. I see you have exhausted every other avenue, so I hope someone can help you out.

Is the bobbin over filled? Have you changed the tension? If it is too tight the spool thread will drag and won't feed through properly. It could also be the thread, some do not play nice in my Janome 300E.Do you have stabiliser on your fabric.
The looping bobbin thread is usually caused by the upper threading of the sewing machine. Always thread the sewing machine with the presser foot up. As long as the presser foot is up, the thread can move freely. When the presser foot is down, the tension is engaged and it will not allow the thread to move smoothly.

Are you gently holding the top & bobbin thread as it takes those first few stitches? If you don't they will get sucked in and can cause a birdsnest.

Hi, you have a lot of advice here, I expect you have tried different makes of thread on the top. and it is the right bobbin thread you are using
if the feed dogs have a drop down facility, make sure they are up properly, have you picked a design from your machine, and not resized it. . I wish you luck .. Please let us know how you get on.

Hi, and welcome to Cute...I feel your pain...although I don't have a Singer, I have experienced similar problems...sounds like our Cuties have gone through the normal mill of answers...but, have you tried just plain sewing...or have you tried some of the deco stitches...are they performing well or do you have a problem there, too? By now, I would have contacted the Singer Customer Service department for some guidance...I obviously don't have your patience...if all else fails, return it quickly...I would also recommend only buying a machine from a reputable dealer where you would get educational and service support...it may cost a bit more, but in the long run, it would be well worth it. I, myself, have a Baby Lock Ellisimo and I love it...Singer isn't what it use to be...unfortunately. There are many, many lemons in the line...I wish you success...please keep us posted!

I wanted to say, "Welcome!" I'm sorry you are having problems. As you can tell we all want to run over to your house and help diagnose it for you, but unfortunately we can't. You have gotten some wise advice here. ;)

Just one more question for you. Is the thread by chance jumping out of the take-up lever? I get those threads clumps when that happens.

I was told to be sure that the needle was well seated in place and that fixed it for me. But I know it is an extremely frustrating problem.

I don't know if this is the whole issue but the feed dogs are not moving at all. I've been so fixated on getting the embroidery to work that I have not attempted to sew. Last night, I raised the feed dogs with the switch Singer indicates on the back of the machine and tried to sew but my fabric just stayed in one place and this same issue from my picture happened.

I took the plate off to see what happens when I move the switch. I moved the feed dog switch up for sewing and then down for embroidery. But nothing happened either time! I could hear what sounded like a spring trying to engage but the feed dogs stayed in place (down). If I put my fingernail under the feed dogs, I can raise them to the up position but they just fall right back down again when I let go.

Don't know if this would resolve the embroidery problem because maybe they are resting in the lower position but I now have to find out why the feed dogs aren't rising for sewing. Sure seems like a lot of trouble for a brand new out of the box machine!

I'm going to see if I can find some info on how to fix the feed dogs, if that's possible for me to do.

Thoughts? Could the feed dog not working have any effect on the embroidery even though they seem as if they're in the low position? Like I said, they're below the plate so I'm thinking not...but I'm not the expert by any means!

Try retreading machine. Making sure foot is up so that thread will go into tension properly.I don't know if this will help but it is worth a try. It happened to me once and I was at wits ends and then someone told me to do that and it worked. Welcome to the club

Mine is doing the same thing right now...it seems my cutter is out of sync...sticks out so the thread catches on it as it moves, thus causing the mess like you have in your hand...I took it in to the shop to see if they knew what was going on and that is what they told me....same things starts out for a few minutes fine then boom get a mess....I had to bring it home to milk through 3 more designs...its gong to be going back to get realigned this week...perhaps the same with yours...open your bobbin up and see it your cutter is out some...if so you probably need to take it back to were you purchased it and have them adjust the timing on it...WELCOME TO CUTE BY THE WAY...deanna

Did you buy this embroidery machine from a dealer? If so get it into them right away. If you bought this on line or it was shipped to you, by all means get a RA, return authorization, and mail it back. Don't let the time allowed to return it run out. Find a dealer that you can drive to and one that offers training classes for the machines they sell and has service tech in house. Then find a machine in your budget and you will be happy!!!!

there is actually a singer futura group and sad to say most of the mailings are about problems with the machine, If its possible to return it and get your money back then do so and get a better machine
it sounds like a tension problem to me the thread may not be going between the top tension holder properly.No more messing about lady its to expensive to wait any longer. Repair. replace or money back use the customers contract

Hi rtrdogs, I think you may have found the problem. You cannot sew embroidery or just ordinary sewing unless your feed dogs go up and down. I hope in this time -- I see you answered nearly 4 and a half hours ago that they were not working. I hope you have rung the Singer group or contacted someone who can help you.

Welcome to Cute! I hope we can find you a sewing buddy to pop over and help get you started (once we have some idea where you are). It sounds like perhaps you didn't get any lessons to get you going on this machine. It will probably be so easy once you know how!

The thread lengths look about the diameter of your bobbin .. are you sure that you have the bobbin in the right way up? I did the same thing every time I turned on my first Brother machine, and it made me want to throw the machine out the window. Turns out I had the bobbin in up-side-down and the first 20 or so stitches would stitch fine, then nesting ... and my bobbin was magically overfilling which would cause my machine to beep and stop. I hope your fix is this simple :) xXx

I have several embroidery machines and I think everyone has this problem at one time or another. Rethread, make sure bobbin is in correctly, check thread tension (different threads sew differently), try using same thread in bobbin as you stitch with (means getting more bobbins), new needle and if all these fail have your dealer check it out. Do you get free lessons with your machine? Phaff and Viking (and I think all other brands) offer free lessons. I found these great. Also check the Singer web site and see if they give tutorials for machine owners.

I have to have the feed dogs down for my Bernina Artista to embroidery. It's the hoops arm that controls the embroidery direction not the feed dogs.

Welcome to Cuties, this is a great site!!!! Hope someone may help you, I do not have a Singer, my machine is a Brother. I would take it back to the dealer before the time is up. You may want them to check it and see what is wrong with it may it is nothing serious Sorry I can not help you.

hope you have found some help. I have a singer futura xl400 and before that, a singer de100.....a huge learning curve for sure, but once you figure it out, mine seems to work well, and I love it....have had the xl400 for about two months now. one thing that I was told, make sure when you thread the machine, you kinda floss the thread back and forth at the first part that you thread to, you will hear or feel a small click and that helps seat the thread....manual never told me this, but it made al the difference for me.....join the futura singer group in yahoo, a guy named jim there, is amazing and will answer any questions. very nice group....good luck!

Just wanted to give you a quick update. After a couple of long weeks waiting for the UPS man, a brand new Futura Quintet arrived on my doorstep a couple of days ago.

I had that baby up and running within minutes! So far, so good.

I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you since I'm officially addicted to embroidery! :)
