The tale of two Baby blankets. In the summer I made a baby blanket for a friend of my daughters. This is the white car blanket. The first time that one of the cousins met the new addition to the family he was offered the baby for a cuddle, he quickly handed the baby back but tried to keep the blanket on the left. Whenever he has met his cousin he has asked to hold him and quickly hands him back and keeps the blanket. Last time he stayed with his aunt and family he was found packing his cousins blanket in to his bag. So his aunt asked me would I make a blanket for Lefi to which I agreed. Unfortunately I was unable to find any of the white car fabric but did find some red so I bought it and made the blanket on the right. When it was collected I had made a small teddy (in the hoop) from the white fabric so that Lefi would have some of the white car fabric. But as I handed it over his cousin of 4 months grabbed the bear and showed us how happy he was with it. My daughter forgot to ask today as she met her friend who now owns this bear and I must make a new one for the one who doesnot have it. The message came back that Lefi loves his blanket and takes it everywhere and the red colour is much more serviceable as a colour as the blanket is being dragged along everywhere inside and outside the house. His mum is delighted too as Lefi now clutching his blanket is sleeping all night long. The teddy is a pattern that came from SewForum and I digitised the words on the blankets myself. Hope you like the story as much as I do

If you don't believe blankets matter, my friend's baby used to stand and beat on the washing machine and scream while his favorite was being washed. I had one son so attached, I threatened to cut his blanket in half and rebind, so we would be okay if one(half) was ever lost. I had a cartoon where the parents kept cutting he blanket down in size and the child kept getting older until it showed him in grade school pulling his blanket fuzz out of his pocket to feel it.

I know how important that blankets are to little ones from first hand experience

That is cute story and it sounds like they figured it out between the two of them. I do advise new moms to buy or remember where blankets come from just in case they end up being a lovey.
