when that happens in West Texas they have to shut the city down.everything closes and no one knows how to drive in the mess but they try anyway usually going too fast. We are cold but no wet stuff,ice or snow. It will be about 15 in the morning,good days to stay in and embroider something. Stay warm!

The Governor of North Carolina has issued a state of emergency and they took several of our road maintenance plows/trucks to the east coast so now our mountain roads are a mess be we are used to the snow mess. Stay in if you don't need to go out and if you need an ice scraper the plastic outlet cover has an angle on it like a scraper and works really well.

It's almost 1 am Wednesday here in frigid central NY. It was 3 degrees here about an hour ago when I took the dog out. The pipes are frozen in the bathroom and there is no hot water in the sink. The oven has been on for 2 days on low heat just to suppliment the heaters we do have. There still is no electricity in my sewing room and no heater either but I'm wrapped in a blanket and have a heavy sweater on so it isn't too bad. You know it's cold when the cars go by and all you hear is the crunch in the snow. I'm looking forward to getting under the quilt soon and catching some sleep. This is really good sleeping weather!

I really worry for our Northern friends in winter, I don't think I could actually live where it snows. We have had another scorcher here today, stayed inside with the air-conditioner on, too hot to even go outside and swim.

Will pay for everyone there to stay safe until the worst of it passes.

I really feel for you all in the cold and white... we had 38deg heat today so fans on for most of it..wish we could send a little your way, but you might have to settle on our Warm hearts thinking of you to keep extra warm.. Stay Safe.. marian

Wild weather! I keep my ice scraper brush in the car, we live in MO so cold and snow and ice are a yearly thing. When snow is forecast bread, milk and eggs are always the first to disappear from store shelves. Two years ago we got 21 inches of snow which rarely happens we get that much. Needless to say we stayed home a few days. lol! Everyone hates ice, it's very dangerous to be out. Please stay safe and hope you don't lose power.

My prayers began last night over these weather conditions. We have a house we will be retiring to this year in North Western Florida. I have been praying our tenant does nothing stupid to damage our home. It is extremely dangerous in the South East with the brutal cold and the ice and snow most southerners either have never experienced or has not had weathers conditions like this since childhood..

When things get really cold here -- which happens often -- we leave the doors under the sinks open so that the warmer air can help keep the pipes from freezing. Our snow we had recently is just white ice now. As you walk across a lawn the ice crunches under your feet much like you hear from the cars as they drive over the ice left on the roads.
Cuties in the cold -- stay warm and safe! Cuties in the heat -- drink lots of fluids and keep cool and safe!

All I've got to say is, "This weather is NUTS!" I've had to keep the heat higher than normal in the house to make sure I don't end up with any frozen pipes, because it's been down to -16F here some nights, with the wind blowing 35-50 MPH. I leave the water dripping in all the faucets so they don't freeze up, and have to watch out that the dog doesn't get frostbite on his feet when he goes out. Since I have an electric furnace, and am in the country with a well, all this heat and water is costing a bundle! At least I don't have to deal with propane gas heat, because people who do can't get it, they've run out of propane at some suppliers. People are sitting in their houses with coats and hats on, conserving what they do have and hoping more will be delivered. We're used to a few "cold snaps" as we call them up here by the Great Lakes, but this winter has just been brutal, never had this deep cold last so long, or cause so much trouble. Lucky I live in the country, water mains are breaking all over the city of Erie from the penetrating cold. Poor workers, out trying to fix in wind chills of -40F! This weather can go back to the North Pole where it belongs, the Polar Bears need it, heaven knows!! Sometimes I think of moving South, but at least we have snow plows and snow tires up here, and people do know how to drive and get around. The relentless cold has kept some schools closed, or on several hours delay, so the kids won't freeze to death waiting for the school bus. Craziest weather I've ever seen in my 65 years out here, and it's only January!! Heaven help us, and yes, that was indeed a serious prayer! Everyone stay as safe and warm (or cool, you gals from OZ and SA) as you can, and be well!! Hugs, Marji

Taking a guess look in your cellar or storage in your roof. We are having Temps in the high 30C & a couple in the 40C today is cool & Sticky. stay safe

Dear Grace, I pray that this freezing cold doesn't last too long. I can't imagine cold like you are experiencing. We just don't get that cold here in Australia. I feel for all of you who are having such hard times with your pipes - please make sure you keep warm and toasty. Meanwhile, I'm sitting here in the loungeroom, with my fan on to keep me cool! Day 3 of snow update: 8 degrees in Alabama overnight. We have not even ventured out to take photos. Still have power and internet and today sunshine, so hopefully by tonight we'll be down to the black ice on roads. To my compatriot who wants to move to the South, think twice. My Yankee (said with love) mother always said the problem was that Southerners didn't know how to drive in snow - until she slid off our quiet little street into a major thoroughfare - then she said the problem in the South is it's nearly always ice after the first day - melt, refreeze, melt, refreeze, melt, refreeze.

I feel your pain! Cold in Knoxville, TN too! One suggestion I saw on the news the first time this came thru! Empty your icemaker bin & be sure the icemaker is turned ON & will have water running thru it. My daughter's icemaker (in Huntsville, AL!) froze the last time! At the wall where the water pipe came in. And, yes, it's the ice that seems to always form in the south. And NO ONE can drive on that stuff! Hubby used his leaf blower to clear our driveway before it froze & the sun yesterday completely dried it...even if it didn't get above freezing! Stay in & stay warm! AND I was so impressed with one of the Chick-fil in Ala that was giving out chicken sandwichs on the Interstate to people that had been there for HOURS! And free!
