Hello, do any Cuties live in the Walthamstow area of London, I'm going down to London every fortnight til Easter to babysit my granddaughter. It would be lovely to see a friendly face while son and DIL are out. Jo

Thanks Gerryvb, its very London in Walthamstow, with everyone rushing everywhere, unlike here in the village where everyone speaks to one another when you're out. Give me the slower pace of life every time. Jo

Why is London called the Big Smoke? Pollution? Does it refer to the war hit London?
Dennis may be able to answer that one better than me, but I remember in the fifties London being filled with dense smog (smoke and fog) and you not being able to see more than a few feet in front of you. So I think it may come from that.
