Some while ago I put my 'stuffed heart' up in Projects. It has just dawned on me what they remind me of - especially mine without enough stuffing. When I was little my grandmother used to make suet puddings - spotted dick and jam roley-poley (sp)!!!. The puddings were put in a basin and tied up with some sort of cloth and tied exactly the same as the hearts before they were boiled. I cannot look at mine now without having a chuckle.

Thank you Karen - Spotted dick was a suet pudding with currants or sultanas in. It was delicious.

All of those are new to me, but I do have fond grandmother memories and I thank for reminding me of them this morning.

Thank you Jerrilyn. Both puddings were really heavy and filling. The next day the pudding would be sliced and fried to give it a new lease of life!!!! This was just after the war when times were hard in UK.

What is all the food made from? Are they sweet or creamy? I think of a pig - suie??? or something French and a bird - spotted dick and a roly poly is a caterpillar? I am sure I am so far off.

For the benefit of the confused. Both are sweet puddings and are traditionally made with suet so they are filling, fattening and heavy. Definitely not good for the heart - which is where this thread started!
