Basket
I had to make an oblong one. It is just right for my fountain-pens (I've quite a few of those).

Very nice, I wish you could do that ITH.

I use that shape for fabric strips.
It is too large to start with and you would have to do the corners afterwards anyway. And it really does not take that long, unless you have to sew strips together :)

Now that is a wonderful idea, is it called thinking outside the oblong box.

Looks great, and I'm glad you were able to get the right shape for your purpose. I agree with "justsew" - that is really thinking outside the oblong box!!!

Tutorial for the square one can be found here: http://seaside-stitches.blogspot.ca/2013/03/fabric-box-tutorial.html
If you want an oblong one you can draw it using the measurements of your finished basket. It is really easy. see http://www.cuteembroidery.com/9562245_rectangular-basket-promised-tried-rectangular.html
