These are my Madonna Lillies - from the first day they popped out of the ground (Meg was here on the Friday and saw them - almost growing before our eyes) then a couple of days later and then a week. Love Chris

We don't have enough of an area for a cricket pitch!!! he he he! Trev is our gardener and keeps the lawns immaculately! I just plant the flowers and watch them grow. Love Chris

Here they are called Resurrection lilies..I have two very large beds. Isn't it odd that they pop up like that, die away, and then the foliage (long leaves) appear. I really like the large clumps of graceful leaves.

Here in the Ozarks, North East Arkansas they are called "surprise lilies" or "naked ladies". They seem to pop up during the hottest most humid day in July. I have several different areas that they grow in. When we first moved here 17 years ago, I had no idea what they were. Couldn't figure out why I had all these clumps of green foliage and all of a sudden they were gone. I thought I had killed them! Finally one of the locals told me what they were. Hugs....Carol

Hi Carol, yes my Mum calls them naked ladies too. They will die down after flowering and then all this lovely green foliage comes. They are a real filler in the front garden. Love Chris

In Ky we call them Resurrection Lilies. In the spring green leaves, then about Aug they get the flowers. I have a clump about the size of yours. Amazing the way they grow regardless what they are called. Joyce

Hi Joyce, yes similar themes 'Madonna' as the mother of Christ and of course 'Resurrection' of Jesus. The correct name is actually Amaryllis belladonna. Yes they are amazing, love Chris
I have never heard them called Resurrection Lilies,, but knew they have them on display at funerals, now I know why, I can understand this. some people just think of them as lilies of death, but when you know of the resurrection you can understand and accept them as a true gift from God...cannot wait for the resurrection of some of our loved ones and possible me if I die before the end comes....

Here in California they are also called " naked ladies" you see them all along the coast all the way up through oregon and Washington. I too have clumps in my yard too. They are from the Amaryllis family

Love these flowers. Drove past a garden on the weekend and it was just one big flash of pink as I whizzed past.

Chris they are lovely, I never knew they came in pink. I have just put our bulbs in the fridge for a couple of weeks before I plant...they did not do too well last year, so hoping for a better display this year. do you take the bulbs out each year, I do up here in the heat, leave them in an onion bag to air down stairs till fridge insert to help them along....love Kerry

No Kerry, I've never taken them out of the ground and they just keep popping up every year. I didn't plant these ones, I've got all the daffodil, freesia and snowdrops in and around these which of course come up in Spring. Love Chris

We have these as well Chris and also the red ones that also grow before your eyes. Look at your beautiful green grass. Our's is going brown because we have permanent water restrictions. Keep cool. Hugs Sarah

Hi Sarah, our grass is also growing before our eyes, Trev has to practically cut it nearly every other weekend! We don't have water restrictions here and since I've lived in Newcastle I never have. When we lived in Melbourne we had loads of water restrictions. Love Chris

Yes, they're called "Naked Ladies" in Kansas, too. Between my mother's garden and my SIL's mother, we used ARM LOADS of these for beautiful rehearsal dinner and wedding reception flowers. They are very prolific! I've transplanted some to my garden just to remind me of my mother. They are her favorite.

Magic lilies is what my MIL called them. They are under about 3 feet of snow, and single digit temps out there. She planted them years before I came here, and I've lived here over 40 years. Long time for bulbs, but they keep coming up.
