Lets play, "How old is this yarn?" I found these unfinished booties in a box at my mom's house. The knitting was complete and all I had to do was sew the seams. I will add a tie and save them for a grandchild. Here's the kicker, my mom doesn't remember if she made them or if her mother made them. I thought that figuring out the date of the yarn might help the mystery. Any ideas?

I think it was from the late 70's or early 80's. I know I use to use a lot of the orlon yarn. Hope this helps.

Grandma passed away in 1993. The last baby things she made for my children were in 1988. She made a set that actually matched this but it was variegated yarn and it included hat, booties, sweater, and blanket. So maybe grandma made it or maybe my mom made it to match what grandma was making.

She made me an afghan after that but I had to beg. Her eye sight wasn't good and so it was hard to knit. I treasure that afghan.
Or maybe grandma was working on another set for my second boy who just turned 24 by the way : )

It may have been discontinued in 1965 or before. At least that is what I could come up with.

In the 1960's my mum worked in a mill where they made "orlon" yarn. It started to be called "acrylic" in the '70s.

Hmmm, I would say late '60s or very early '70's judging by the label and the price...85 cents per skein...it will be interesting to see if Coats & Clark's replies to the questions by Janus48...

I agree the 60"s. I think I still have some of this type of yarn. About 10 years ago I stopped at a yard sale and the lady had scads and scads of yarn for sale. I bought it all for $20. I think there were over 100 skeins of yarn. What a bargain that was!! Hugs, Mary

"Thank you for your recent inquiry about the age of Red Heart Orlon Pompadour. That product was manufactured in the 1960's and 70's, although we can't give you a specific date for the skein you have. The records for that manufacturing run have long since been discarded.
