My prayers are with them. How sad that our rainbow nation can not live up to its title. If only everybody can accept everybody else, regardless of race or religion, these atrocities would end.

God bless.

I am shocked and horrified by what is going on. I live in Canada, and since this was the second time I have seen a post of a Farmer killed in South Africa , I thought I should take a look on the web and read some news reports.. It's more like a genocide what is happening I can't believe the numbers of farmers and there families being murder and tortured . My prayers go out to all !

I have lived in South Africa for 38 years. Yes I did arrive during apartheid times and yes there were things that were far from right but at least we had some sort of law and order.
I just wish other people from around would read reports as you have done. Yes it is like genocide. Farmers in particular are targeted as they have land which they own.

I don't understand what these people have to gain in killing the land owners.

So sorry that such horror has touched your life. Prayers for all those who have been so affected and please God let sanity and humanity return to the people who are committing these atrocities.
I've just been listening to a commentary on the Holocaust and the Irish potato famine and I am appalled anew at man's inhumanity to man.

It is true that about the potato famine but that wasn't the only food the Irish grew and ate. As a Professor from Melbourne University said, it was an act of genocide that saw so many Irish people die. There was plenty of food in Ireland but it was being shipped to England. There is no nation on this earth that isn't is tainted by greed. We in Australia are still struggling to love the first people who inhabited this wonder continent!

This is so terrible, what happened to provoke this violence? What is a farm murder? Were they targeted because they were wealthy? Kay

Kay - One of the reasons farmers are targeted it that they usually live on large land that is far away from the nearest neighbours., so they cannot get help quickly. Robbery is the main reason and farms always keep guns, which is usually what all the thieves want. It is all terribly sad. We have tremendous poverty here but they do not have to kill

So sorry to hear this. This kind of happening is so scary and it does not look like anything will change soon (or ever, for that matter)

Feel so bad for those poor children - nothing will ever take these pictures out of their heads. Hope that they and their mother find peace of some kind in the future and can live full lives despite this horror.

Dear Yvonne, my heart goes out to you and your friend's family. It all just seems so futile. I wished guns were never invented, or for that matter any tool for the destruction of a life. I truly hope and pray that peace will eventually happen in your country and for that matter in our world. If everybody would just learn to get along - after all we are all human beings, doesn't matter what we look like or who we pray to. I also hope that in time the dreadful horrors that those children and mother witnessed will dissipate. God bless you all, love Chris
