I use Mary Ellen's Best Press.
I will use a heavier starch if the fabric is very light cotton as it tends to wrinkle.

Yes, it is light weight and leaves no residue. It also comes in several fragrances.

In my area, we get Mary Ellen's Best Press at Hancock Fabrics. It is also available on their website, www.hancockfabrics.com. It's a nice product--seems more like a fabric finish than "starch" .

I use Faultless Spray Starch on all my cotton fabrics. I just finished ironing and starching a bit ago and thought I'd come visit awhile. I get the one marked "heavy starch. I love the nice crisp fabric and really believe it helps with the embroidery. Hugs....Carol

I use Dylon spray starch but if ever I run out, I dissolve soak-away (using all the offcuts) in hot water and place into a hand spray bottle. Works very well.

Caroline.....Dylon are particularly well known for their fabric dyes, etc., but also do the spray starch. The spray starch is sold in the likes of Tesco, etc. Not that I've been to Tesco but my goafor tells me that's where she got it!

I have magic sizing for pillowcases or quilt pieces when I do them, it smells nice too. I also have spray starch. It just makes for a nicer end product.

I starch all cotton fabric before it goes in the hoopI any brand will do. I also use liquid goo (vilene) on all satins and organza's.

I am starting to wash more kitchen towels, since discovering the amount of shrinkage upon washing and it is easy at that time to dry , spray. starch , iron and fold in half length wise to mark for center for a good placement line. People we give or sell our work to do not have a clue as to all the work or time we have in to each item. Kay

Mary Ellen's Best Press is carried by most sewing stores. It has a heavenly lavender scent and works nicely. I always do hoopless
embroidery, the fabric is never crushed in the hoop, so it needs to be stiff.
It is then stuck to the stabilizer, which is hooped. (Glad PressNSeal)

I usually starch cottons...using spray starch from the Dollar Store or Wal-Mart...I have tried Mary Ellens Best Press and like it, but actually prefer the cheap starch to the Best Press for pre-starching embroidery fabric...also starch linen 4-5 times and get it really stiff...and then I don't need to use any stabilizer if the design is of lite to standard density...

I make up about 1 litre from powdered starch at a time and put that in a spray bottle, or even soak flimsy cotton in it. It may get mouldy after some time so a litre is just enough to have me finish it before that happens. And linens are sprayed and ironed repeatedly - makes it nice and crisp and also prevents fraying too much..

I use spraystarch before embroidering, the results are better as without and I use spraystarch too for patchworkpieces before I put the layers together
