Following Shirley's post on the subject of "How to make a cake thingy in a recycled tin can and now, the further admission by certain UK Cuties that they are making feverish moves to save all the tin cans they can lay their hands on, I thought that perhaps all you scrap metal recyclers might wish to own up to the size of your collection and even provide photographic evidence. It is apparant that these treasured possessions rate highly for several of you and by opening this thread it may encourage the formation of a 'swapsies club.'
I'm happy to start the ball rolling by informing you that I have the grand total of ZERO tin cans........................

LOL... I am collecting cans for a different purpose. I need a place to safely store my scissors at each sewing station. I will add fabric and decor to them when I get time...if I ever get time. LOL

Ahhh, and the can debate is on...I must admit that I, personally, do not use the "can"....well, I do not use the "tin can"....I prefer to use glass canning jars...and then I can add the lid with a nicely embroidery topper under the screw lid...and it is totally enclose and ready to gift..perhaps your lovely Anne (the one who must be obeyed) would love for you to do up some of these in mason jars to accompany the lovely Easter Baskets she has appropriated...food for thought?

I must admit... It is hubby who tends to collect these and only for grease collection. I however will stop throwing them away and pick out my best size, which I have already chosen. Cursory count was 3. Now hubby knows what size I want and I am sure I will have plenty soon.

Your cans are so adorable Bev, very nice and Vicki's designs are perfect! Love your money cans! What type of cans and lids do you use, are they coffee ones?
I bought some cans with lids on etsy for a very good price and still have about 6 left. I liked them because they had the lids. I cut the bottom out with a can opener ,flip them over,that way you can get the money out. I put a thin layer of batting over the cans first before adding the embroidered fabric
Another great way to recycle the cans. Well done Bev.

Caught out, I have 8 cans for steaming my date and walnut rolls, Please note Dennis these are not scrap metal... Just an everyday housewife's way of being economical :)

So far I have only 1 can. Seems we don't eat much out of cans in this house. Never gave it a thought before but everything we use comes out of glass jars. Only have one as Hubby had a can of Baked Beans. Have been looking in all the shops to see if I can buy cake cans in this shape but no luck.

I have no cans :( but I do collect jam jars for when I make jam and marmalade - at least 50/ 60 of them!!!

Are you part of the W.I. Sarah? I have a lovely neighbour who makes jams and the like. She is the head honcho of our village W.I. She makes lovely relishes as well.
Is she one of the locals Ann gave your Easter baskets to? In that case you might get a tasty Easter present in return.

I have collected only 2 so far cant wait till I have enough for my firs t batch of yummmmm I also collect glass jars for lemon curd (That is made in the microwave just cAnt seem to get enough lemons it goes so fast...soozie

If I check the recycling bag before its collected to see how may we have here. My husband uses old tins for paint so when I save I will need to be careful. I already belong to a swapsie club its called Freecycle. Anything I try to save is put into recycling by my husband so its even difficult to save jars for jam

I managed to save 4 cans (3grapefruit and 1 baked beans), in time to make the cake to take to Sues. However what I didn't think about was that the tins were ring pull and so had difficulty getting the cakes out. I had to remove the bottom of the tin and then they slid out perfectly. so now I'm saving again!!! All contributions gratefully received.

Are the cans essential or can you use smaller baking tins? I'll get my husband to have proper breakfasts again - baked beans on toast; and scrambled eggs and the rest of the trimmings to get him to eat the beans.
Now Now Mr Dennis. My intentions were good. I thought you would all own a good can opener that cut the lids off nice and clean. I hate those ring pull things as I don't have the strength to pull them off and have to get hubby to do the job. Shirley

It is quite amazing the lengths some people go to with their collections. We have a tv program on over here at present dealing with similar people. One has an almost identical beer can collection..........another of milk bottles!

My Son-In-Law has a beer can collection, but nothing lke this. Another friend collects cups and scausers and had a special room added to the house to keep them in, complete with small table in the middle of the room with afternoon tea all set ready to not be used

I have zero--I took mine to the recycling center. I would rather use the room for more important things like yarn or fabric, I am glad that embroidery design collecting does not take up much room.

The 5th. Amendment prohibits me from divulging such information given that the question is not sufficiently specific. Do you mean electrical screwdrivers, engineering, watchmakers, woodwork, embroidery machine, sewing machine.................................lol
Yes I admit I do own a few screw drivers. One never knows when one will be needed and it saves the walk up to the shed to pinch, borrow. steal or call it what you like from hubby's stash. Shirley
So, you have many screw drivers for different reasons like we have many scissors for different reasons. Then just like hubby's borrow our scissors, we borrow their screw drivers. :)

I am divorced, and live with my son. He basically has 1 set and LOTS of others taken from me and never given back. I keep on buying new sets to have a full set, and he keeps on breaking my sets. So I have quite a few hidden away. Stuff to do bead work with, general screw drivers for the house, small ones to fix my glasses, embroidery machine ones, sewing machine ones, screw drivers for overlocks, and thats not counting my scissors. He keeps on using them to cut paper, making them useless for fabric, and I keep on buying new ones.. So it is not only men collecting screw drivers...

Now Dennis you only need to have 7 or 8 cans. Shame on you to not have saved any yet. You can wash them after they have been used . LOL.... I am still using some of the original cans after lots of loaves and years, Just keep on Cooking and enjoy the recipe. Shirley
