Anything you use in a heating pad will do, corn, rice, cherry pips, it does not have to be spelt. As long as it moulds easily and does not weigh a lot - camera bags are heavy enough as it is with extra lenses and so on - it can be used. Mine has very old pulses in it, used as baking

Nice idea to embroider it. I made myself one from the material normally used for spinnakers or kites, bright green, rainproof and easily wiped clean, but not nearly as good looking as yours!
