Here is my grandmother's Brownie Recipe, I mentioned in asterixsews chat about her upstairs sewing room and a cat.

Brownies~ Leaha

1 cup of melted butter

1/2 cup of cocoa powder (Hershey's)

1 cup granulated (white) sugar

1 cup of packed brown (light or dark) sugar

4 whole eggs (no need to separate)

1 cup of cake flour

1 teaspoon of baking powder

a dash of salt

1 teaspoon of vanilla

Melt the butter and add the cocoa, next add the granulated and brown sugars. Mix these together and beat.

Add each egg 1 at a time and beat after each addition. Sift the three dry ingredients and combine with the above.

Last add the vanilla.

Walnuts may be added.

Grease and flour an 11x16 inch pan; bake at 325 approximately 20 minutes (each oven is different).

Do not over cook.

What ever you do don't set them outside to cool or you will be sending an open invitation to every squirrel in the county/parish or borough that you live in...ask me how I know?

Sorry, I don't a picture to include. Hope if you try them, that you like them.

Leaha thanks so much for this. I now have to decode some of the recipe as I presume cake flour is what we call self raising and I need to check on what a cup is for me. Now for some fun over the weekend and a happy husband as he will enjoy eating it

Cake flour is not self rising I don't believe. It is for a finer crumb, not as coarse. We have self rising as well, it isn't the same.

No there is a difference. Self raising does not need baking powder and cake flour needs baking powder as there is no raising ingredient in it. Hope you get it sorted out. Enjoy your baking. Hugs

Cake flour is NOT self rising as already stated. I just make my own by using a sifter and sifting the the amount needed 9-12 time before I add anything to it. It comes out lighter and fluffier and finer than just plain flour.
If this helps; you can use a mug you drink coffee, tea or hot chocolate out of as long as it isn't over 10 ounces. Just use it throughout the recipe...don't change to another.
I forget our measuring system is different from most of the worlds.
Hope they turn out great and that he is a very happy camper.

Thanks! Better with frosting or not?

I never use frosting so I can't tell say. They always came out of the oven and disappeared to fast for that. So I guess the best answer is to try them both ways. These are not at all like bakery brownies.
