I am leaving this week for Gamma Knife brain surgery at Swedish Medical Center. I have essential tremor in both arms, head and torso plus voice tremor. If all goes well this should go away. Eating is hard as food hops off fork and out of spoon, can't write or thread my embroidery machines. Keep me in your prayers please for safe travel and that procedure goes well.

God bless and keep all of you.

This is not scalpel surgery. They focus 196 gamma rays to meet in a pea sized spot in my thalamus. After 3 to 6 months I will notice change. Next year I can go and have other side of brain done. I believe this procedure is used for inoperable brain tumors. I go in at 7:00am and when I am done they send me home to "resume my normal life". This involves volunteering, sing, church, family and most important causing trouble in two different states the same day.

Sandy, I will be praying for you for sure! Isn't modern medicine amazing! I'll pray for the skill of your surgeon, his team and that you will be protected at all times. Will you have to be in hospital for long? Check in when you can. Hugs!

Isn't it amazing how far medical science has come to be able to address this issue without a huge brain invasion? I wish you the very best!! I would love to hear updates as you recover from this procedure, and can hopefully find the portions of your life that have been interrupted or taken away by the tremor.. It sounds like the changes will happen slowly over a period of time rather than that "instant change" that some surgeries and brain implants can yield. I hope that this is everything that they expect, and more, in the positive sense! You should keep a journal of your recovery so that you can look back and see just how much this improves your life. Best wishes and prayers for the very best outcome, and safe travels!

Hi Sandy, Ar you talking about Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado? That is 7 minutes from me. It is totally amazing what they have learned about the brain in the last 20 years. I pray that all goes well for you and you are stitching soon! God Bless.

Dear Sandyqueen, wishing you good luck and sending my love.
You will be treated well with this surgery. I think this had been developed approx. years ago at GSI in Darmstadt and tested in Heidelberg at DKFZ (Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum). I had been reading about this in the local newspaper; they reported about a guy who came for
treatment and in between the sessions he and his wife stayed at a
camping site close to Darmstadt. It has been tested for several years
and now they are really good at this kind of surgery and now it's done in several countries. Good luck for you! Maria

If you google GSI Darmstadt and Hirntumor you will find lots of entries about the very beginning and later....

(another)

Now they even try to fight against lung cancer and I was interested in that. But 2003 my brother-in-law passed away - they couldn't help him then. It was too early and each case is an individual case

We drove from Snake River to Olympia yesterday without incident. Beautiful day. Daughter and SIL taking time to assist us.
