When I was babysitting last week our oldest granddaughter was going to finish her exam is Shop & she told me that she was making a little something for Papa & myself. I was quite surprised when she arrived home later that day with this lovely gift in tow. This weekend we have varnished it so that it can be left outdoors & we have found the perfect place for it too. She is in grade nine & we both thought that she did a wonderful job making this & using all the tools like a drill & skill saws & the like. I have dated it on the bottom as I have a few birdhouses on our property & this way we can date it 10 years from now. I have one from each of our kids so they are over 25 years old & still doing very well .........a new paint or varnish job but other then that & still doing very nicely.

She did great. I know you were pleased and flattered that she thought of you. Our birdhouses would only last about 8 to 10 years in South Carolina because of high humidity summers. Wish I had kept one of my grandfather's birdhouses indoors to have forever.

That is a great gift and workmanship. I wish I had the opportunity to take wood shop, but back then girls had to cook and sew. I already knew how. I had to teach others.

I am happy that I can say I know my way around many tools & my girls are no strangers to them either so maybe I have rubbed off on them & her lol

for Christmas around our house we had to buy 3 sets of the same tool so all our kids could each have their own lol

We thought the very same thing. When I took her aside I asked why didn't she give it to her parents & she told me that she made them a spice rack! wow I was already impressed with the birdhouse & even more so with the spice rack. Thank you Sarah, ~hugs~

Now this is something I would loved to have learned in school. I went to a Girl's technical high school, but of course no such thing as Woodwork for us ladies! Well done, I hope she continues with this great work. Love Chris

This is great and she is doing what I think all girls should do, learning how to use tools. LOL I had an Aunt that insisted her daughter also take small engine repair when she was in Jr. college. This was yrs ago but this girl is now in her 50s and alone and says her knowledge gained comes in hany at times. Hugs to you and G. daughter/Lillian
