He's home! I picked my handsome hubby up from the hospital at noontime yesterday. His white cell count, thanks to heavy duty IV antibiotics is now at 8,000 which is within normal. He is tolerating the antibiotic by pill form now . And he is eating! What a joy to hear him breathing last night instead of silence. He still has the drain which is still draining yucky stuff, but to me it is a beautiful thing. I am hoping the the CT scan on August 4th will show no more infection in his abdomen. For me, it is definitely Christmas in July. Thank you so much for your support and prayers. I am a happy woman to now have my husband a sick man instead of a VERY sick man.
Just a caution,
Because he is on very strong antibiotics, that will kill both the good and bad bacteria in his whole body, not just the infection area, he needs to also be eating something that will add the good bacteria back into his body or he may end up with severe diarrhea and also thrush which is a yeast infection since the normal body bacteria will usually keep the yeast levels in check. I learned this the hard way and your sweetie really does not need to go through even more than he already has!
If he will eat yogurt that has live cultures in them, then just a couple servings a day will help restore the good bacteria. If he does not like yogurt there are pills at the health food stores. Hopefully he will continue to improve without any set backs. Prayers will continue for you both.
