Welcome to cute - I have the designer 1 which is the sister to your machine. You can load the designs onto your stick but you are limited as to the size of the stick. Also if you need to do any adjusting lettering etc you will need a program of some sort. I started with 4D and upgraded recently to 6D. Just the basic program I don't need or want to digitize. You can always go to your local Joanns and maybe get a class from the Husqvarna dealer there for a small fee. Have fun.

Just to make sure we have covered what you asked -- you would first download the file > save it to a folder (we recommend you create easy to search folders as you will end up with a lot of designs) > then as you want to use a design, you would send the individual file to a memory stick (also called USB drive or jump drive/stick) plugged into your computer and then take it and plug that stick into your Embroidery Machine. Make sure you do not have a lot of designs on that memory stick as it will slow your machine down.
If you want to view the files before you send them to your machine there are several free software programs available for that.
