Well, that was quite the adventure this afternoon.....I thought it was just going to be a shot in the back and I would be done.........oh, how wrong I was.......Doc said the impingement is significant and they are going after it aggressively to try to get it calmed down....first I got a numbing shot, then he xray'd the back while he shot dye into the nerve and that gave a jolt of pain and that verified he was in the right spot and he shot the steroids in 2 x's, one dose was a big push and the other wasn't as much........holy cow, it was like someone was ripping the nerve out of my leg, only for a few seconds, but it was intense enough to cause nausea.......and I get to do this again next Wednesday. He does not anticipate it hurting this much the 2nd round......hope not!! It may take up to 10 days to get any result, so it is just a waiting game..ugh!
I know all your prayers are heard as that is what got me through this thingy........Love to all!!

Oh, LOL....I am sure he will be able to go on a nice Christmas vacation once I pay the bill I know I am getting...
but being pain free is priceless so whatever it takes. when he hit me with the steroid injection, I asked him "does you mother know you do this to people" we both chuckled then I told him I was going to tell his wife (I sit with her during the barbershop performances) Hoping he will be my hero in all this!!

A big Owie day for you. My goodness! If you get nervous, ask if you can have it done as an outpatient. My prayers that it will help and soon. I know how horrible it is to live as you are living.

Yeah, Karen, quality of life is zilch right now, but I will say at least my body hasn't given me the dizzies for awhile, I can't imagine putting up with vertigo and this at the same time!!

Thanks so much, Chris......Yes, Fred (the doc) said the bulge in L5 was significant and that is why he feels we will get good results if we attack it twice a week apart and if I need a 3rd, so be it, if it is working, I will go for it!

Oh boy, I know how you feel. I have to go get that shot again soon as it is getting more difficult to stand up straight. Dr said I would need 3 doses but I got by with 2 and what a joy it was when it took hold. That little shock feeling when he hits the right spot was a surprise even though he warned me about it. Didn't bother me though. It felt so good to be able to walk and stand up without pain. Good luck and I hope it works as well for you as it did me. The bigger shock was getting the bill.

Yeah, I've had that, but didn't want to tell you about it. I told my pain doctor that I thought those cartoons of cats hanging from the ceiling weren't real, but the idea came from someone who had this procedure done. Holy smoke!
I hope he sent you home and told you to rest the balance of the day. The first time I didn't, and didn't get the result I did the next time when I obeyed orders.

I will take the advice now from someone who knows....YOU! Thank you for telling me that, and I am having about a 10% reduction in pain just in 24 hours, so am hopeful.....there is no description really for the jolt of pain when they hit that nerve, is there? Thanks, Jerrilyn

Once a doctor shot dye deep into my shoulder (which was already giving me incredible pain) - he said it wouldn't hurt - But, it was so bad - I thought I would wet my pants!!!! I turned to him and asked him if he had ever had that done to him - of course he said "no". I told him it was excruciating and he shouldn't tell people not to expect pain from it. Sorry, for my rant - honestly my thoughts (and prayers, of course) are with you, Vicki!! - and I hope this first shot takes care of the pain! Hugs, Laura*

Good for you. Doctors need feedback too. I was fortunate to have the opposite experience. I needed a cortisone shot in my heel for plantar fasciitis and the doc told me that most people complained that it was quite painful. He said it would be better if I could relax and that he would go slow. I let my foot go limp and breathed and it was a piece of cake. I loved that doc.

Perhaps it will be better if you can follow the advice of my foot doctor to relax. I know that's difficult when you are expecting pain. I also try to think of something other than what is going on to disassociate myself from the moment.

Oh my! They put me to sleep with that twilight stuff for just a few mins while they did it! Can't imagine the pain! It did take a few days for it to start working. I though it had failed after the numbing wore off & it hurt so bad! But, no, that's how it works I think. Hang in there!!!
