OH! BOY AM I EXCITED!!!!!

Guess what, I've finished the Peppermint Swirly dress that Michele921 originally posted on here. What a feeling of seeing it all come together. A lot of sewing, metres of fabric and loads of cotton. I made a size 5 for Ophelie and will make the same for Aqualina. I'll start hers over the weekend.

Thanks for the encouragement Michele. So now there's a few of us who are making it. Love Chris

Hi Pauline, I just took each page and sticky taped them to the corresponding one. I made a size 5 so cut out that size. For the bow you just cut out the fabric to the size needed - in my case it was 12 and 3/4 inches by 4 for the short front bit and 33 x 4inches for the long pieces. It's all there in the PDF (75 pages of it). I just made sure I read through it all before I started it. I didn't make the SLIMFIT one I did the other one. I'm sure you'll do a great job. Love Chris

Thanks Caroline, I cheated with this one though as the bodice was all meant to be in the spotted fabric but I ran out of it so I used striped fabric for the back. I had to put the front bodice on selvedge area instead of on the fold.

I love it!!! Excellent! Someday I'll have to share my outfit I did in the 70's. It was a swirl ladies skirt and shirt. I had so much sewing in it, I kept the outfit. The fabrics then are not near as nice or colorful as todays beautiful fabrics. And no way does mine fit me anymore. lol! Love all you girls nice outfits you sew.

Thanks, yes, I love the swirly skirts too. I used to have rope petticoats when I was a little girl with full skirts. Something about twirling, isn't there? Love Chris

So so beautiful! I was gonna say I want to make one, but it seems very complicated. I am too lazy to commit to that! You should be very proud of yourself!

by pennifold 19 Sep 2014
It's not complicated Lucia, just lots of cutting out and stitching seams - there is a minimum of 14 flounces in the skirt. The bodice is really easy - the pattern starts at 6 months - so you could make them for your Lily and Lia. Love Chris
by babolucia 19 Sep 2014
You are so nice to remember their names. Where is the pattern from? I must have missed it when Michelle posted it when I was pregnant.

Wow, nice job! I looked at the pattern and then decided too much fabric involved for eight dresses...I may have to rethink this...I can see the girl twirling away in my mind!

8 sweet grand nieces - how cute they would be but that would be a lot of fabric!!
by Leaha 19 Sep 2014
For your crew this might be a life time career. Would love to a photo of all 8 of these doing the twirl! :-) Do you own a fabric shoppe?
by pennifold 19 Sep 2014
Hi Kim, these dresses take 2 metres for each colour. Time also is a concern. Cutting them out too, it takes a long time! I'm glad I'm only going to make 1 more! Love Chris
by dragonflyer 20 Sep 2014
Oh yea! I knew they took a heap of fabric! I think I need to take the KISS approach here...Keep It Simple Simple!

No Aqualina is the same colours but has stars in it too as I ran out of fabric. So she will have 3 navy fabrics in hers. I hope to get piccies of them in them later in the year. Love Chris

Speaking as a younger sister, when you stitch two dresses in two sizes, make them different. I got so bored wearing the same dress in two sizes for 3-4 years!

This is an exceptional dress and I know she'll love it.

by pennifold 19 Sep 2014
Ha ha ha! I know what you mean. I am the older sister and my sister always got my dresses. I used to dress Dana and Amy in the same things - they never wore them out, they just grew out of them. The good thing is that Ophelie is 3 and a half years older than Delphi, so Amy can keep this dress for when she is 4! Love Chris

Well done Chris, so pretty. I thought it was check or dots, before the bodice was added, and gray. Now it looks like stripes and dots and looks navy and white. Very good job you did, but if they twirled around me or Karen, WE would be the ones dizzy, not the girls.!

Hi Toogie, yes it's a pretty navy and white. The first picture I posted you could see the proper colour down on the lower left hand side. Aqualina's has stars in hers too, so 3 fabrics as I had run out of the striped. I had to buy more. Love Chris

How much yardage does it take? I would like Nora 18 mon and Avery about size 8 or 10, does it come in these sizes?
