I have never embroidered with Mylar. I bought some fabric that has an iridescent sheen to it. I was wondering how to stitch it. I wanted to try an ornament design. Do you hoop a felt and tack down the iridescent fabric like applique, on top and bottom, so it will shine on both sides? Also can someone give me a link to a free Mylar ornament, to try? Will a FSL ornament work? I have some of those. Thanks for any info-Toogie

I would use WSS as stabilizer. You cold use FSL designs, but make sure that it is not very dense so the iridescent has a chance to show.through. I think that any design calling for organza will work. The material is beautiful and I can't wait to see what you come up with.

Will just using this fabric hold its shape? It has a little 'stretch' from side to side, not up and down.
I agree that you should use wss as a stabilizer. And then just don't wash it totally out and it will keep its shape. I use it a lot, but not on fsl. If you are thinking of using the mylar balloons, I wasn't happy with the results (and I have access to free broken mylar balloons from work). It looks like you embroidered on aluminum foil. Toogie I used something very similar, the sales lady called it dress foil and I used it in a project calling for stained glass bought a few different colours it worked perfectly and washable as well, I also used WSS as a stabilizer. hope it helps , regards Carol

you can make an ornament by putting felt or heavy paper on the back with glue and cut out the form with scissors. I made christmascards this way.

Looks like the organza I got to make my GS an Elsa cape. If you are going to use it with a design that you trim it, I would recommend using some fray check along the stitch line because that material will fray.

I don't think this is organza, as I have sewn that before but it is similar and it does fray. I have some fray check so if I can remember to use it!
Also, do I use the same thread in bobbin???

it depends how stiff you want your orn to be.if light weight orn then use wss as stabilizer,but if heavier wt. wanted then use a felt or even a cut a way stabilizer.
