Do you believe in ''love at first site''. Well I sure do and that encounter a little over 30 years ago has lead to my celebrating my 30th wedding anniversary today. We had met 10 1/2 months earlier in a boarding house we both lived in.

Funny story, every morning at 5 A:M someone a few doors down from me would let their alarm clock ring and ring and ring and that would wake me up. They would shut it off and let it ring, ring, ring again and again for up to 10 minutes which drove me nuts. Once this person got out of their bed they would head for the shower (one per 3 rooms) and that happened to be across from my room.
Hence the 45min shower begain and again impossible for me too sleep with all the racket going on (old house with thin walls). Once this mystery person was done and no longer annoying me, I in turn would run to take my shower only to be left with (you guessed it) colddddd water. This went on for a couple of month, my never seeing who the culprit was.
One warm October, indian summer evening, I was watching t.v with the door to my room open (it was so hot) when suddenly I hear a tap on my door. There before me was a handsome young man
holding a facecloth to his mouth and asking ''do you by chance have any ice''. I, having a small refrigerator in my room, gave him some and he stopped to chat a bit.
He had injured himself in a badminton match.

He was a professor at the community college and I was working as a secretary having just returning to work after a very trying 5 year health issue. I had been advised by my doctor that I was not ready to return to work, hence my temporary housing in a boarding house rather than an apartment (in case the doc was right) although I was determined to prove him wrong. The 1st evening we chatted for about an hour and he went on his way.

Next day I went to my favorite little diner for lunch and I hear someone say ''over here'' (we had not told each other our names) and it was my professor. And so the romance began. Each evening we would sit for hours and talk about everything and nothing and at times I would be doubled over with laughter. He was so funny.

This went on for about 2 weeks with never a romantic gesture taking place. I, having determined that my health issues were behind me, had found an apartment and was moving the 1st of November. I wondered if he going to make his move before I made mine lol. I had since discovered that he was the mystery man (ringer and hot water thief) but that didn't matter so much now. Note: he still takes 45 minute showers it's just that now we have a 60 gallon tank LOL.

Well he finally kissed me and in a boyish way said, ''maybe we should think about dating''.

We did and 5 months later (to the surprise of many) announced we were getting married. Some of my family members had never met him and wondered if I had fallen on my head, this was so out of character for me.
To make an already long story short, two wonderful children and many happy years of love, laughter and adventure later, we celebrate 30 years today.

He remains my best friend, my confidant, my lover and my support through some health issues that are unending. We are planning a trip to Italy and Croatia in 2015 to celebrate and today we will celebrate with my wonderful children and their wonderful partners.
The champagne is on ice.

I am truly BLESSED in so many ways and grateful for all that life has given me.
