I have been trying to buy some Madeira thread on the Internet. I am in Australia and found one, but the postage on one reel was $7, almost as much as the thread. I need a particular colour, 1147 foxy red and have been looking at the conversion charts but find it very hard to decide which is the best match, without actually seeing them. Can anyone help with advice on this matter?

I don't know where in Australia you are but I am in Brisbane. I have bought stabilisers and thread from Marathon Australia based in Melbourne. Their freight is good a flat rate no matter what you buy. They can also convert the colours from one brand to another. You can also buy a thread colour chart for a few dollars well worth it.Very friendly service phone number is 03-94172722.
Hope this helps.

thank you. I am a South Aussie and live on Eyre Peninsula about 200km up the West coast from Port Lincolon. Very isolated.

Forgot to add you can order online that's what I do. But seeing as you are trying to match a colour thought you might want to talk to someone.
Also remember thread is like wool even the same brand and colour number can be different with the dye lot.

I buy all my thread form Thedathreads in Brisbane. One set postage on the order, never had a problem. Threads are beautiful to stitch with. http://www.theda-threads.com.au

Robison-Anton have rayon Foxy Red, colour 2263.
Are you buying Madeira thread from Tajimaaustralia.com.au? They are the Australian agents for Madeira. When you buy thread online, it's cheaper to buy more than one reel at a time.

Both the conversion chart that came with my Madeira and my 5D software give the following:
Madeira 1147
Sulky 1147
RA 2266, as well as 2263 which is lighter and brighter
Mettler 1902, all rayon
Marathon polyesther 2044 - which I have in my stash and it's indeed the same.

Vicki, you have lots of places to go to for the Madeira thread. Hope you found some.
I am in Sydney and I pick it up at Hobbysew. They do internet too.

I use the variated threads as the thread I started with Isacord didn't have them.
