I have mentioned on a number of occasions that my first embroidery machine was a gift from a very good friend as an appreciation of our very longstanding friendship. (We still end up as giggly 12 year olds when we get together which is not often enough) I have also put here that when she was 60 that I bought her a laptop and told her to get on with her writing (She had told me to buy the machine I kept talking about). Well I am very proud to say that she recently entered the Manchester Fiction Prize (UK) and has received a highly commended. This is brilliant as there were over 1000 entries. Congrats Cariad I have just had a email from her today saying that she has sent me a load of face cloths to embroider for her to use as Christmas presents

Oh, how good it feels to do some writing. All of my life I have wanted to write a book. Didn't care if it was published or if anyone read it. Just wanted to finish it. Various times I've had a beginning, or a middle or an end, but never everything. Well, one day I did. Took me a year, but I did my book and it's nice and secure here in my computer. I know how much your friend appreciated your encouragement. Keep it up and enjoy doing her face cloths. Friends are special.

That's wonderful Caroline, sometimes all it takes is some encouragement to begin a new venture. My oldest friend whom I've known since I was 10 is like you and Cariad - when I go back home to Adelaide and catch up with her it's just like I was there yesterday! What a good friend you have been and look at your joint good results. This is heart-warming. I have tried to encourage my friend in her (amateur) painting, with tools and supplies.

Well done to you friend and i am sure she is as proud being your friend as i am. I can see you now in your little sewing room doing all those face cloths. I have just finishes cutting all those tiny blocks for my next quilt and will begin to assemble them today.
