This is the pencil case design that Sarah (airyfairy) used for her first try at an ITH project with a zip. I have tried to make the instructions very detailed indeed for beginners. She replaced the pencils on the front with a name and she also used a design on the back which is not included in this one.

Sue would denim fabric work or to thick..
I made mine in thick denim but it was not easy to turn to the right side at the end.
Mine is similar weight to denim - although denim does come in different weights!
