Yesterday I was given a 'brand new' sewing machine. I say brand new as it has only been used 2/ 3 times but it is quite old. Imagine my disappointment when I plugged it in all ready to try and it did not work :( . The light comes on but the foot peddle does nothing. I am going to see if it can be fixed as I would love to give it to my youngest daughter.

I have just taken it into a local man (does not 'do' embroidery machines) and he tested it and it is the foot control. The worst is that I will need to buy a new foot control. He said that it looks as if it has never been used. It is an Emphisal EM-250 sewing machine.

What brand of sewing machine was it Sarah? I'm hoping you have a good sewing machine mechanic nearby who can fix it for you. Love Chris

A good service maybe all it needs. Is it an emb machine. Hope you can get it working for your daughter. Good luck. Hugs Marg

I have been told that it just needs to run for a while as it has never really been used.

I used to have Empisal knitting machines they were first Knitmaster and later Silver Reed. I assume this is made by the same company. I dont remember any sewing machines in UK though.

The Empisal sewing machines and overlockers are still available here in SA. I have a wonderful Empisal overlocker which is nearly 25 years old. Works like a dream.

I am not too worried about this machine as it is not mine but I really would like to give it to Emma in working order.

After standing for a long time, it might just need a god cleaning and service to work 100% again. All the best.

When he tried another peddle it hummed like a bird.

Does the local man or someone you know have a foot control you can use to check it?
Good luck!

He did this while I was there and that is how he knows that it is the peddle.

have you thought about getting a new foot peddle and simply swapping the fittings. Any good electrician should be able to do this. as a foot peddle is a foot peddle its only the connectors that differ. It might benefit from a service if its been left standing. just check if there is a fitting under the foot peddle that the lead connects to and if so has it come loose. does the fuse need replacing. it just could be something very simple

Hi Annie - I think that is what he is planning to do.
